by Anja van Beek

It is often said that culture is the competitive edge for any organisation. Culture is also referred to as the personality or character of the business. So it leaves us with the question: “Where does emotional intelligence (EQ) fit in?”

The Key to Your Self-Care Goals Is Thinking Small and Here’s Why

August 20, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

When making progress on self-care goals, having a good intention is not enough. In my work as a coach and trainer, I know people genuinely have every good intention to show up on the calendar without guilt to make time for their self-care goals. They make promises to themselves, intending to honour them, but ultimately these agreements get broken. The excuses are coming from a good place — my boss needed something, I didn’t have enough time or my bed was too warm. I’ve realized that this lack of follow-through is not a character flaw nor a motivation problem. The real barrier is thinking too big.

Preparation meets opportunity

August 14, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Phindile Ndlovu-Tapula

Yes, I know you are probably wondering why I am writing again. I have asked that question myself several times too. You see I haven’t been able to write, felt like I have nothing to say and that no one is listening anyway. But something kept pushing to write, so I am here again.

Motivation: real or rubbish? Learn some tricks to mobilize your motivation

August 14, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Marjon Meyer

Did you leap out of bed this morning? It’s cold… it’s winter, Covid-restrictions limit our movements and business operations, and we’ve learnt to no longer look too far ahead. So, do you even set any goals during these crazy times? If yes, what fuels your progress? This year’s lockdown restrictions and lifestyle is a lot easier for me than last year. I like the “new normal”. Working from home, doing more online shopping to avoid busy malls (buying things we don’t need) and appreciating my own lovely home is a blessing. I’ve learnt to focus on close relationships and live more intentionally. Learnt to not sweat the small stuff.

Things they like

August 7, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Brigette Mashile

One thing a client will let you have is their opinion. Whether you asked for it or not! In the years I have made dresses for many people, I have gathered a few things that people want which I still don’t have full understanding of. Some of them I have been told why, others it’s just as is. Here is the list:

How am I?

August 7, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Ashika Pillay

It’s Monday morning, it’s been a rough weekend with a sick child, school activities, and your diary for the week ahead looks messy to say the least. As you walk to your favourite coffee spot and muster up the energy to face reality, you bump into someone you know, as you place your order for your regular latte. “How are you doing?” you ask as you patiently wait to pay. You listen somewhat (in)attentively and exchange niceties, as you both wait to get on your way. While by this point in the day, you may have some semblance of an idea of how your friend is, have you checked in on how you are?

Para obter um sorriso do seu cliente, ou da pessoa que o procurou para a decoração do seu evento é preciso, em primeiro lugar que você a receba com um sorriso no rosto também. Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship

July 31, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Tshego Dludla

I love how people make being a boss lady and a mom look so glamorous, don’t you? They have routines that they stick to religiously. They have children who have tight schedules and nap times that they never miss. Oh and my personal favourite, they take lovely family vacations at the drop of a hat. Not to mention the exercise, healthy eating, plenty of self-care, hair and nails freshly done and on it goes. I mean they own their time right…WRONG!

Why you need to relook your budgets TODAY!

July 22, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Kathryn Main

If you are a working person in South Africa right now you are feeling the pinch of the 3 interest rate increases, the 7 petrol price increases, the Eskom increase of 9.61%, all your annual subscriptions have gone up the average 10%.
