Matilde Mawelele Rungo, a Mozambican tech-preneur helping to drive digital transformation in the country

December 7, 2025 Melanie Hawken

Matilde Mawelele Rungo, founder, RealityTech Advisory (Mozambique)

Startup Story

Matilde Mawelele Rungo is a digital transformation consultant, cybersecurity specialist, and founder of RealityTech Advisory in Mozambique, where she leads technology-driven projects for businesses and startups. She is also an evangelist and the creator of MTI – A Triad of Hope for Children, an initiative that integrates Evangelism, Technology, and Innovation to empower young people and communities. With a global vision, Matilde is committed to advancing individuals, organizations, and ecosystems through technology, faith, and meaningful social impact. The business was launched in 2024 and today has created jobs for 6 people.

LoA spoke with the innovative and impact-driven Matilde Mawelele Rungo to learn more about her business, her passion for empowering people through technology, and her vision for the future.

What does your company do?

RealityTech Advisory is a digital transformation company that designs personalized technology solutions for businesses and startups, with a special focus on agritech and green businesses. We help companies modernize their operations, improve efficiency and use data intelligently — always respecting their real financial capacity. For green and agriculture-based businesses, we give special attention to building step-by-step, affordable digital solutions that can grow over time, matching their existing budget instead of forcing them into unrealistic costs.

“I wanted to build a company that brings technology that people can actually use, at a pace and cost they can sustain. My inspiration came from watching entrepreneurs and communities struggle to grow because they lacked access to simple, practical digital tools.”

“My vision for RealityTech Advisory is to become a leading African powerhouse in digital transformation, agritech innovation and accessible technology for businesses and communities. The future of my company is strongly aligned with practical impact, scalability and sustainability.”

What inspired you to start your company?

I founded RealityTech Advisory because I saw a clear gap: many businesses — especially in agriculture and green sectors — need digital transformation, but most solutions in the market are too expensive, too complex, or not designed for the realities of African businesses. I wanted to build a company that brings technology that people can actually use, at a pace and cost they can sustain. My inspiration came from watching entrepreneurs and communities struggle to grow because they lacked access to simple, practical digital tools.

At the same time, my passion for empowerment, faith and social impact inspired the creation of MTI — ensuring that technology also reaches young people and communities who are often left behind. So, RealityTech Advisory was born from three convictions:

  1. Technology must be accessible.

  2. Solutions must respect the financial capacity of the client.

  3. Transformation should empower both businesses and communities.

This is what continues to inspire me every day.

What makes your business, service or product special?

RealityTech Advisory is unique because we combine technology, practicality and financial reality in a way that most consulting companies don’t.
What makes us special is:

1. Personalized digital solutions
We don’t offer generic tools. We design custom, step-by-step solutions that match the real needs, maturity level and goals of each business.

2. Built for African and green businesses
Our work understands the context: low budgets, limited infrastructure, and the pressure to grow fast. We focus strongly on agritech and green businesses, offering solutions that respect their budget and grow over time.

3. Affordable digital transformation
We believe digital transformation must be accessible. So all our services and technologies are created to align with what the client can actually afford, not unrealistic international pricing.

4. Practical + sustainable impact
We don’t just “give technology”. We make sure it works, people know how to use it, and the solution remains sustainable for the long term.

5. Integrated social impact (MTI)
We are one of the few tech consultancies with a social impact arm — MTI — that promotes digital literacy and innovation for children and youth. This makes our mission bigger than business.

6. Human-centered approach
We walk with the client. We simplify technology. We translate complex systems into clear, actionable steps they can follow.

Tell us a little about your team

Our team at RealityTech Advisory is made up of committed professionals who combine technology, strategy and social impact. We bring together different strengths to deliver personalized digital transformation solutions, especially for agritech and green businesses.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

My entrepreneurial journey is a result of experience, education and the environment I grew up in. I am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and I have strengthened my entrepreneurial foundation through specialized programs, including entrepreneurship courses from WIA (Women in Africa) and the Tony Elumelu Foundation / WE4A program, which exposed me to international standards of building and scaling sustainable businesses.

I also come from a family with a strong informal entrepreneurial culture. From a young age, I actively supported my family — especially my grandmother and aunt — in informal trade, learning the practical side of business: customer interaction, sales, negotiation, discipline and resilience. Those early experiences shaped my mindset and taught me how entrepreneurship works in real African contexts.

My professional journey reinforced this foundation.
My first job was in a family-owned business, where I experienced how small companies operate, grow and face challenges. Later, as a consultant, I had the opportunity to learn directly from many companies and clients — understanding business models, financial realities, operational weaknesses, and the strategic decisions leaders must make.

All these layers shaped my vision and inspired me to build RealityTech Advisory, a company focused on accessible digital transformation, agritech innovation and practical solutions adapted to the financial capacity of African businesses. My entrepreneurial journey is therefore a combination of academic knowledge, family experience, real-world practice and continuous learning from the organisations I serve.

“For me, entrepreneurship is not only about running a company — it’s about serving, transforming and leaving a legacy of opportunity for others. And that is what gives me the most satisfaction.”

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

My vision for RealityTech Advisory is to become a leading African powerhouse in digital transformation, agritech innovation and accessible technology for businesses and communities. The future of my company is strongly aligned with practical impact, scalability and sustainability.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

What gives me the greatest satisfaction as an entrepreneur is seeing real change happen in people, businesses and communities because of the work we do. I am fulfilled when I see a business finally adopting technology they thought they could never afford, or when a client grows because we designed a solution that truly fits their reality.

I also find deep satisfaction in empowering others — especially young people through MTI. Watching children and youth gain confidence, learn digital skills, and realise they have a future in technology gives me a sense of purpose that goes beyond business.

As an entrepreneur, I value:
• solving real problems,
• creating opportunities,
• seeing growth that was once impossible,
• and building something that impacts both the economy and the community.

For me, entrepreneurship is not only about running a company — it’s about serving, transforming and leaving a legacy of opportunity for others. And that is what gives me the most satisfaction.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

The biggest advice I can give to women who want to start a business is this:
Start with what you have, where you are — and build consistently.
Perfection is not the starting point; courage is.

Too many women wait until they feel “ready,” but entrepreneurship grows through small beginnings, learning by doing, and not being afraid to fail forward. Use whatever resources you have today — knowledge, community, experience, even your challenges — and allow your business to grow step by step.

Secondly, surround yourself with the right people. Mentors, accountability partners, communities like Lionesses of Africa, or other networks that support women entrepreneurs. You don’t need to walk alone.

Third, know your value. Women often underestimate their skills, their leadership and the power of their ideas. Believe that your voice, your creativity and your solutions matter — because they do.

Finally, build a business that respects your reality, not someone else’s. Start at your pace, based on your financial capacity, and grow sustainably. Your business doesn’t need to be big to be meaningful — it needs to be authentic, consistent and aligned with your purpose.
