How to Get Money Savvy – Tip 3: Multiple Income Streams

June 6, 2021 Melanie Hawken

by Kathryn Main

Gone are the days when the mom stays home to take care of the kids while the dad goes to work. I was fortunate when I was younger because my mom stayed at home. She on the other hand was totally unfortunate. When her and my dad divorced at 40, she had to start her life with nothing, never having worked and having no real skills.

Making a necessary change

May 30, 2021 Melanie Hawken
pablo-1570.png

by Eldari Visser

I think we are surely all extremely “bored” by the whole Covid 19 pandemic, although we cannot change the heartache it brought. We still mourn loved ones and we still pray for the world. Let’s talk about a bit of a different point of view today. As hikers, we know that we can go and hike the same road and see many different sceneries every time, although it stays the same route. Somewhere you get that urge to do something totally new and different. The exact same can and maybe should happen in our finances and our businesses.

Life is like a game of snakes and ladders. You never know what the next roll of the dice is going to give you. It could be a snake (threat) that could cause you to regress in your financial life. Or it could be a ladder (opportunity) to take you to the next financial level of success.

Critical Phases of a Go-To-Market Strategy

May 29, 2021 Melanie Hawken
pablo-1567.png

by Kelebogile Makhafola

We spent the majority of 2020 learning new skills, joining courses, and committing to hours of virtual engagements. We, as business owners and brand leaders, had time and energy set aside to acquire new knowledge and pursue agile solutions for our business and brand activities. Let this year (moreover, this time of the year) be dedicated to processes that position your brand in the mind of your customers. It is time for the rubber to meet the road, it is indeed the time to make those insights work for your brand.

There are times in life where we look for validation from other people, whatever we need to do has to be supported by somebody else for us to believe that it is the right thing to do.

All change is messy in the middle..

May 16, 2021 Melanie Hawken
pablo-1564.png

by Ashika Pillay

Being an entrepreneur, especially a female one is not all pretty business. We see the stories on the LinkedIn and Facebook, and perhaps even on Lionesses Of Africa, and we get a good case of either Imposter Syndrome and or Mrs. Doubt (Fire). Sitting in the aftermath of that hit can become ugly and unsettling. We question the choices that we’ve made, and paths we’ve chosen, and wonder if it’s all really worth the effort, and the not-so-prettiness. How can we find help to get out of the hole when we find ourselves there.

How to finally take the plunge into your courage zone

by Lori Milner

“As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.” - Robin S. Sharma

If you want to start running, you aren’t going to put your hand up for a monster marathon. You’ll begin with some light jogging and build your way up slowly. When you want to get into a swimming pool, you tend to dip your toes in first to test the water. Even though you know it’s not the best strategy to get in so slowly, it still feels easier than taking the plunge and jumping in. Why not adopt the same approach when it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone?

Are you an achiever or a competitor?

May 9, 2021 Melanie Hawken
pablo-1557.png

by Marjon Meyer

The slow and sometimes passive lifestyle of Lockdown in 2020 encouraged me to spend more time running as our escape and entertainment options were extremely limited. Teams and Zoom also have their limitations for human interaction and stimulation. I have always been a lover of the Great Outdoors, so it felt good to apply my tekkies to tar with the added bonus of becoming fitter and staying healthy. An unexpected bonus was that I was introduced to a group of running enthusiasts who I now consider my tribe, my running family and dear friends. Hours on the road invariably lead to beautiful and interesting conversations, especially for those who can run and breathe simultaneously (just for the record, due to the latter, my listening skills have improved rapidly).

What return will PR offer your small business or startup?

pablo-1553.png

by Nadia Hearn

The most important part of understanding how Public Relations (PR) can help your business and brand is to get educated on the role PR plays and where it fits into your marketing plan. Understanding marketing, the different tactics and what each delivers, must inform your strategy so that it is spot on to deliver against your business objectives and marketing spend.

Pricing cringe

May 2, 2021 Melanie Hawken

by Brigette Mashile

Pricing - I avoid this topic, a lot. It is because it makes me uncomfortable. I have no direct reason, so I know it must be deep and attached to money in general. This is a major issue because I run a business, I make products which I sell, every day. What am I doing? What have I been doing? Ah…sigh… I need to dig deeper and solve this mystery. At some point in my business, my analysis pointed to something off with our pricing, and it is still there. This is because I made a few major errors in the beginning.

Create Yourself, and then, Re-Create Yourself

April 25, 2021 Melanie Hawken
pablo-1548.png

by Safiyyah Boolay-Jappie

“Life is not about Finding Yourself, It is about Creating Yourself. “ — George Bernard Shaw

As soon as your mother knew that your arrival was on the horizon, she started to have thoughts, ideas and dreams about you and for you. The fashioning of you began. Without your involvement. Without your awareness. Without your consent. As your young life unfolded, chapters were being written for you and yet you were told that this book, this life, is yours.

“At least 40% of all businesses will die in the next 10 years… if they don’t figure out how to change their entire company to accommodate new technologies.” — John Chambers

Digital Transformation is often pigeonholed as an IT topic or project that only concerns the CIO or CTO….but it is much more than that. It is really all about rethinking your business in the Digital Age.
