My Word for 2025: Collaboration

December 29, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Margaret Hirsch

As we approach the new year, I find myself reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the past and the opportunities that lie ahead. Each year, I choose a guiding word that encapsulates my focus and intention for the months to come. For 2025, my word is collaboration.

Why collaboration? Because I believe that the greatest achievements are rarely accomplished alone. Whether in business, personal growth, or community building, working together has the power to amplify success and bring dreams to life.

The Strength in Collaboration: We live in a world that often celebrates individual accomplishments—and rightfully so. But behind every success story, there is usually a network of support, guidance, and teamwork. Collaboration isn’t just about dividing tasks; it’s about combining strengths, ideas, and perspectives to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

This year, I’ve seen firsthand how collaboration has transformed challenges into opportunities. Whether it was brainstorming with my team, partnering with like-minded organizations, or simply listening to new ideas, the magic happened when we worked together.

Collaboration in Action: Collaboration doesn’t just happen; it requires intentionality. Here are some ways I plan to make collaboration a cornerstone of 2025, and I encourage you to consider these ideas as well:

Building Bridges: Seek out partnerships with individuals and organisations whose values align with yours. These collaborations can open doors to new opportunities and fresh perspectives. As business leaders, it’s vital to recognise that partnerships with other brands can drive innovation and growth. Whether it’s brand social media partnerships, hosting joint events, or sharing expertise, brands working together can achieve much more than they could alone.

Fostering Open Communication: The best ideas often come from unexpected places. Create spaces where everyone’s voice can be heard and valued. In brand partnerships, transparency and mutual respect lay the foundation for enduring relationships and shared success.

Celebrating Collective Wins: Recognise and appreciate the contributions of others. Success shared is success multiplied. For instance, when two brands collaborate on a campaign or product launch, celebrating the joint effort publicly can strengthen relationships and inspire others to join forces.

Learning from Others: Every interaction is an opportunity to learn. Collaboration allows us to grow by exposing us to different ways of thinking and problem-solving. Partnering with brands from diverse industries or cultures can introduce fresh perspectives and lead to groundbreaking innovations.

The Challenges of Collaboration: Of course, collaboration isn’t always easy. It requires patience, compromise, and a willingness to set aside ego. But the rewards far outweigh the challenges. When we lean into collaboration, we not only achieve more but also foster deeper connections and a sense of shared purpose. This applies not only to individuals but also to brands—even competitors can find common ground to create win-win scenarios that benefit both parties and their audiences.

Why Collaboration Matters Now: The past few years have shown us the importance of coming together—whether it’s navigating global challenges, supporting our communities, or innovating in a rapidly changing world. As we look to 2025, collaboration will be the key to unlocking new possibilities and solving the complex problems of our time. Brands that collaborate can reach new markets, tap into complementary skills, and drive greater impact by working toward shared goals.

As we step into the new year, I challenge you to think about how you can embrace collaboration in your life. Who can you partner with? What can you achieve together that you couldn’t alone? Let’s make 2025 the year of we instead of me. Whether you’re an individual or a business leader, look for opportunities to build alliances, create shared value, and go further together.

My word for 2025 is collaboration because I truly believe that together, we can achieve extraordinary things. Let’s inspire, innovate, and grow as a collective force for good. Here’s to a year of working together, forging partnerships, and making magic happen.

Much love

Margaret Hirsch
