6 Mindset Shifts To Personal Mastery

February 25, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

Personal mastery is not a destination; it is a lifelong journey. It isn't one sweeping action that creates mastery; it's more like subtle brush strokes that bring the masterpiece together over time. It's not always new actions that bring about change but a new perspective. This palette of personal mastery advice comes from author Tony Robbins who continues to inspire me on my journey. Dip your brush in and see which resonates with you:

February 25, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Anja van Beek, Talent Strategist, Leadership & HR Expert and Executive Coach

In recent years, the landscape of HR has undergone a significant transformation. We have seen a shift from routine HR processes being automated for People leaders to focus on the culture and other strategic focus areas in the business. When we look at the future of work, we can expect to see more integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in People/HR teams to build experienced worthy initiatives.

Change is an integral part of life - accept the fact!

February 18, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Margaret Hirsch

The way to conquer any fear of change is to display an open-mindedness to new ideas and desires in your life. To get ahead one has to demonstrate a willingness to do things differently from everyone else and this in itself is a challenge as it’s so much easier to go with the flow - to fit in - to be one of the sheep.

How smart are you?

February 18, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Marilize Jacobs

This question is usually answered by referring to IQ, test scores and grades. Yet, in business (and life) I believe street smarts – i.e., social and emotional intelligence as well as resilience (also referred to as SQ, EQ and AQ)– are just as important (if not more) than book smarts.

Unlocking Your Potential: Sales as a Career

February 4, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Margaret Hirsch

No one has ever taken selling as a subject at school, yet over 90% of all business involves selling of one kind or another. When you hear the word salesman what usually comes to mind is a slick looking, fast talking, slimy person who is trying to take your hard-earned money from you. Well today and especially at Hirsch's Homestore, nothing could be further from the truth. Our salespeople are very kind, considerate people and they are known as "professional solution finders.” All day is spent finding solutions to other people’s problems.  Be it from the perfect piece of toast for breakfast, to the most cost-efficient washing machine for a family of two, or ten; to the latest fridge/freezers which actually send you a message when your food is about to expire or run out! We have to know the model numbers, the features and benefits and of course the prices!

Want to Improve Your Relationships at Work? Drop These 3 Habits

February 2, 2024 Melanie Hawken

7 Questions to Plug Your Energy Leaks and Start the Year Strong

January 27, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

January has the special aroma of a fresh start combined with energy, enthusiasm, and new dreams. This feeling typically lasts until the end of March, and then your energy begins to dip, and before you know it, you're counting down to Easter because you need a serious break. It's not like you waste your energy intentionally or even consciously; it's a slow drip like a nail in a tyre; it leaks air so slowly that you don't notice until it is completely flat or inches from it.

What's your favourite topic of conversation?

January 27, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Margaret Hirsch

The quote by Elinor Roosevelt goes: “Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and small minds discuss people.” Once you know this you can stop yourself being pulled into the conversations discussing other people - they are not worthy of your time. Events also come and go but discussing ideas, now that’s not only thought provoking but can be mind-blowing.

How to Make Self-Care a Lifestyle Without Guilt

January 21, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

Diets don't work because they're temporary; they are a pseudo-commitment. For sustainable change, it's your lifestyle that must change. It's your identity that changes. You start to call yourself a healthy person and then act like healthy people do. More importantly, your mindset shifts from a victim mentality of punishment to an owner mentality of freedom. Ultimately, your way of being changes. It is not one thing you do but a stacking of choices over your day that contributes towards your weight loss goal. It's not just one meal but sleep, water, nutrition, and your emotional world – everything in the periphery done consistently will help you achieve this.

Is Fear Holding You Back from Living the Life of Your Dreams?

January 21, 2024 Melanie Hawken

The only thing holding you back from living the life of your dreams is FEAR. Now fear comes in many different forms. I always tell my team members that it can either be:

False Evidence Appearing Real … or… Forget Everything And Run

Teams are always your winning hand

January 13, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Eldari Visser

A couple of months ago we had the privilege to go to the Kruger National Park in South Africa and we spent five days in glorious nature. Wow ,that was really a time of rest and we saw amazing sightings. I always get great ideas for my blog that directly correlate with our business life. Nature once again did not disappoint! Nature’s stories are so closely linked to our business world. I really think we could all just listen to her more. We can apply the lessons of nature and animal behaviour in business successfully. Here is a story for you that I hope brings this point to life.

7 Reasons why you should celebrate the small wins

January 13, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

Most high performers will only allow themselves to acknowledge the big wins – when they get ‘there'. Some people fear complacency or mediocrity; others place self-worth on achievement and, therefore, will only recognise the 'significant' wins. Many people attribute success to others and won't acknowledge their success, so they sweep the achievement under the rug and quickly move on to the next big thing. If you resonate with any of these points and can only allow in the big achievements, here are some reasons why you should reconsider:

Willpower Isn't a Strategy. This Is How You Create Change That Lasts

December 17, 2023 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

Consider your relationship to willpower. It isn't a trusted friend who's always there for you; willpower is the scapegoat you blame when you hit snooze for the 7th time. When you blame, you lose control and a sense of power over the situation. So, if you can't count on willpower to make the changes you want, what can you count on? You need a reason to want to keep your promises to yourself, not only on the good days but on the days you don't feel like it. Especially the days you don't feel like it!

3 Questions to Turn Failure into Freedom

November 26, 2023 Melanie Hawken

by Lori Milner

You get two kinds of people: someone who says they have twenty years of experience or someone who has repeated the same year twenty times. Do you know someone who constantly attracts the same situations yet responds identically and can't understand why they don't have a better result? This is truly the definition of insanity.

I want to tell you two things: I like you! I know how you feel!

November 19, 2023 Melanie Hawken

by Marilize Jacobs

I want to tell you two things: I like you! I know how you feel! Those are words we ALL need to hear more often. I often wondered if there was a “science” to being more likable and develop rapport with people, thereby making them feel that you like and understand them and ensure the feeling is mutual. That is exactly where the Emotional Quotient (EQ), also known as Emotional Intelligence (EI), plays a crucial role.
