A beautiful but disturbing clip was doing the rounds of a pack of hyenas going for a lion. Killing was their main aim. This older lion fought for a long time from all sides - got a couple of good homps in, but the clan was very big. Mostly they were going for his ass!!! Yep - catching you from behinds! This lion turned and dodged and roared to get them away.
Our typical business hyenas
We make products or deliver a service and so many times we feel like this lion. The problems come from all over. Let’s discuss a few.
The orders are wrong
The supplier is late
You in turn are late
Late payments - mostly corporates
The cash flow is slow
Once you check you books you want to faint
Clients complain about service
Rent, tax, vat
Workers are late, lazy, slow and blame the weather!!!!
From all sides you are trying to cope. This happens with both new and established businesses. Sometimes they are too big, sometimes as a start-up. We have to do everything. Most of all we need to supply for our family and our workers’ salaries!
Economic world turmoil, two blond politicians, corrupt and war-torn Africa!!!!!!! The list goes one of challenges.
Is it worth it?
Back to the lion clip. He sits on his behind panting, contemplating just letting go…. then…. far away he hears the roar of help arriving. Back to back they start to take one by one…… and making a good indent in the pack of hyenas. You are never alone.
What can you do then in business to fight off the hyenas?
As these two lions did - start with the easy targets or problems first - pick up that phone and get the suppliers sorted
Get a non - payer sorted
Make exceptions only for the long-term clients you really trust
Don’t hand over ANY merchandise without some sort of payment
TALK to your bank.
NEVER give up!
Look - at who is trying to jump your ass - get them sorted!!! Seriously, they are scaly.
But here is another lesson! YOU COULD BE THE HELP! Can you be the dependent for the friend in business that needs you? We know you have your own stuff to do, we all have …. but what if it was you that helped save another person in business from this agonizing “death”. Step in and help your female counterpart - we have all been alone … help has always pulled us through. A tribe does that. Call for professional help. We have seen it all and we can see the enemy’s tactics better than you whilst you are in the midst of the storm. We know and understand the tricks.
