The media sometimes comes across as a scary monster. Being a visual thinker, I always imagined it to be a big creature sitting behind a desk chewing papers. To sum it up in one word…it seemed intimidating. As of late and out of my personal experience as an entrepreneur, I can safely say…the media is and can be a friendly giant.

As entrepreneurs, what are your thoughts on the company culture you are creating in your own business? Bottom line is that every company should promote an engaging and ethical company culture. This will not only create a happier workforce, but we know that happy employees are productive employees and will therefore give you the competitive edge.

“You are what you repeatedly do, then achievement isn’t an action you take but a habit you forge into your life. You don’t have to seek out success. Harness the power of selected discipline to build the right habit, and extraordinary results will find you” – Gary Keller, The One Thing.

Do you ever feel like no matter how much you get done in a day, your to-do list keeps getting longer and longer? In a culture and society that’s obsessed with being busy and “swamped” with work, I often hear something along the lines of this from women entrepreneurs: “I’m so overwhelmed I don’t know what to do next.”

It is said your habits are the foundation on which success is built. I was again reminded of this by an article I came across on Forbes.com that beautifully illustrates that no matter how much technology has changed our lives, some things will fundamentally never change.

As a firm of attorneys, we are known for advocating the importance of having a legally valid will drafted, regardless of your age or financial standing. In my career, I have often come across hugely successful entrepreneurs who didn’t have a will in place, or if they did it was seriously outdated.

There is no question that your ability to communicate confidently and authoritatively is critical to your career success. Presentations are amongst your most important opportunities to make an impression, to stand out and enhance your personal brand. It’s not simply another boring meeting. Get over thinking of presentations as burdens. Just by thinking about them differently, you can shift your level of confidence, and that, as you know, is the first step to improving the overall way you are perceived.

Nature provides many lessons for humans to learn from – biomimicry is the study of nature-inspired solutions to human challenges. It takes 300 bees flying to 2 million flowers over a distance of 88,000km to make less than half a kilogram of honey. That is an average individual bee run of 6,667 flowers over 293km! A study of bees thus provides many leadership lessons that can address some of the issues encountered when leading and managing a business.

Read more5 Quick Sales Tips for the Busy Entrepreneur
I saw an interesting post on Instagram today. A survey asking entrepreneurs what is the one thing they want to accomplish today and the most common point out of the 4 given was, you guessed it, getting new clients. It seems like as entrepreneurs we really understand how to build a business, what product or service the market needs, how to use social media and to speak passionately about our business. Yet there seems to be a lack of focus when it comes to sales.

We all know them…those pop stars who made it big…BUT with only one song. Right Said Fred, Los Del Rio, Vanilla Ice, and a few others. They blazed onto the stage with fire, only to vanish into thin air. Wikipedia describes it as: ”A one-hit wonder is any entity that achieves mainstream popularity and success for a very short period of time, often for only one piece of work, and becomes known among the general public solely for that momentary success”. It got me thinking of the kind of business I want to establish. Do I want a long-lasting, sustainable business that will go on long after I have gone, or am I building a fleeting one-hit wonder?

In the last 6 months, I have been broken by the passing of two dear entrepreneurs and the critical hospitalisation of one. If a distinction is not made on the importance of self-nurture, the body and mind take the biggest knock and who will run the business when that happens? The things that matter need minding and it is time the entrepreneur pauses that business button and presses the mind me button.

I’m sure we’ve all had conversations about how quickly the year is going. When we are heading towards the end of the year, we start getting ready to put the old behind us and start preparing for the new. It’s a time of shifting away from old and unhealthy patterns and creating space for newer, healthier practices.

I’ve coached and worked with hundreds of women entrepreneurs making between $75k and $750k in revenues, and in my book Million Dollar Women I profiled women who successfully built multi-million dollar companies. When only 3% of women entrepreneurs are reaching $1M in revenues, we know that the women who make it “big” are more the exception than the rule. So exactly what is getting in our way of catching up with men in turning our business ideas into ones that make bank?

There’s something breathtaking in the shimmering beauty of a moving blanket of water and foam that seems woven together by microscopic gems of different hues. Spread across a vast expanse of space the body of water moving rhythmically swaying gently to its own tune, to its own invisible authority. The breadth, depth and width of the sea inspires supernatural possibility in our measured humanness, thinking beyond the immediate on what we can envision, what is possible, what can be. This great expanse that kisses the edge of the horizon unearths desires for equaled greatness lying within us. Picture the scene of designs that can be visualized, dreams that can be realized, and concepts that can be materialized. There’s something freeing and foreboding about the sea all at once.

The world of an entrepreneur is a daily emotional roller coaster ride. Every year in July I travel, but this time I won’t be, so allow me to do so vicariously through nostalgia of a past sojourn’s images etched colourfully in my mind. Though I traversed the breadth of Italy, it is Rome’s smells and spirited tales that beckon to be revealed and re-explored and I find myself willingly teleported to strange yet familiar sounds from my history books and daily business Latin phrases.
