Stacey Spilsbury, a South African entrepreneur helping clients to connect mind, body and wellness

June 12, 2022 Melanie Hawken

Stacey Spilsbury, co-founder, Connectable Life (South Africa)

Startup Story

Stacey Spilsbury is the co-founder of Connectable Life in South Africa, an online platform that connects Mind, Body and Wellness specialists with clients. She grew up in the heart of Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. She is married to an incredible man, father and farmer, and they have 4 earth loving, wild and free, little boys. Both Stacey and her husband are passionate about Family, Faith and Business. She has a background in marketing and worked for a few years in London, UK before getting married and settling down back in South Africa.

Africa is in Stacey’s blood and in her bones and there is nowhere in the world she would rather live and raise her boys. She took a few years off from working and running her own business, to focus on being a mom, but she feels the time has come for her to enter back into the business world again. Stacey never realized quite how much she missed it, but the real reason she is working again, is because she has a passion for people. Her business, Connectable Life, is created for people. She believes there is a special place and season for everyone, and we find what is important to each of us, at the right time. Her belief is to stay close to God, listen to him, and he will guide you into the season of your life that is perfect and right for each one of us.

LoA learned more about Stacey’s mission and vision for Connectable Life and what she hopes to do for her clients through the business.

What does your company do?

Connectable Life is an online platform that connects Mind, Body and Wellness specialists with clients. It is through this platform that clients find a specialist, book, pay and have their video consult via a built-in webcam. And all this from the comfort and safety of their home. Specialists include dietitians, personal trainers, counsellors, life and business coaches, and so much more.

“Connectable Life is an online platform that connects Mind, Body and Wellness specialists with clients.”

“Our business is unique and special in that it is making healthcare, in all its forms, accessible and easy to use. It is a one-stop shop for all things mind, body and wellness, without even having to leave your home and without any stigma attached.”

What inspired you to start your company?

At the end of August 2019, before we knew what the world would become with Corona, my friend and now business partner and I were discussing the difficulties people must sometimes go through to get help (for many reasons) and the desperation this causes. We are from a small town and understand this first-hand due to limited resources and professionals. This led to the thought process of making healthcare more accessible.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Our business is unique and special in that it is making healthcare, in all its forms, accessible and easy to use. It is a one-stop shop for all things mind, body and wellness, without even having to leave your home and without any stigma attached. Our Goal is to make healthcare a norm for everyone, easy and accessible to anyone.
Our Heart is seeing people's lives transformed! Making peace and joy the aim for everyone.
Our Hope is to highlight the value of wellness over illness and that there is strength in reaching out for help, even when we don’t think we need it.
Our Why is... people!

Tell us a little about your team

Jess Mostert is my business partner, but first my friend. She has a special ability to see the goodness in people’s hearts and has a knack for making people feel as if they are the only ones who matter. She cares about seeing people whole and healthy. She also has this incredible ability to be efficient, punctual, upstanding and honest. She is not only good with people and has her honours in Psychology, but she is also excellent in business and administration.

I am Stacey Spilsbury, I have a passion for people and find myself in the same situation as Jess, in that people love to share their lives, stories and problems with me. I love to listen and to be a helping hand when needed. I have a diploma in business management and marketing as well as a Career Guidance Counsellor with Career Direct.

We then employ (part time) both IT Developers, IT Specialists, Digital Marketers and SEO Specialists.

The most crucial part of the team are the many Healthcare Specialists. They work for themselves under the Connectable Life banner. We purely run the platform, giving them the opportunity to find and consult with clients.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I love all things entrepreneurial and creative. Both my husband and I own and run our own business. Both of us come from a long line of entrepreneurs and business owners. It is in my blood. My father is a successful business man and commercial property owner, I am blessed to have been guided and encouraged by him to follow my dreams and passions. The aspect I have always been most grateful to my parents for is their encouragement of me and their faith that I have got what it takes to be a business woman. They have always let me know that, 'If I want it, I can get it. It just means working hard.'

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Our hope for Connectable Life is that it will be a thriving business where people may find the Mind, Body and Wellness Healthcare help they are looking for and need. A massive aspiration is get Connectable Life connected with the corporate world. To get us aligned with other business and companies, instituting employee wellness is a growing and crucial facility in larger corporations and we would love to make the transition easy for everyone. Companies can use the facilities of Connectable Life without having any of the labour or startup hassles and costs involved. Caring for their employees through our easy to use, efficient and convenient platform. We have it, already set up, ready to use.

“Our hope for Connectable Life is that it will be a thriving business where people may find the Mind, Body and Wellness Healthcare help they are looking for and need.”

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

I love hearing how our product is benefiting and changing lives. I love to see that not only am I doing what I love to do, but also that it's helping in the world and in South Africa.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Follow your heart and dreams, work hard and seek wisdom and guidance from those who have walked this road before. Something to remember - don’t let your dreams be crushed by those who are not willing to lift you up or walk alongside of you. But most importantly to me, I love to pray, do that and you will find peace and clarity.

Why LoA loves it…

The Covid pandemic has made everyone appreciate just how important it is to take care of our health at all levels - mind, body and spirit. Making healthcare, in all its forms, accessible and easy to use in order to achieve a greater state of overall wellness has never been more critical. So the work that Stacey Spilsbury and her team at Connectable Life are doing comes at the best possible time to make a difference. The business takes a holistic view of wellbeing, and importantly being a digital platform, creates the opportunity for everyone to get the support, advice and tools they need to take better care of their overall health and wellbeing. This is a great digital platform that empowers people to think about wellness and to make those important life changes that will make the difference. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
