5-Style and health secrets to help you thrive in business

January 17, 2021 Melanie Hawken

by Suret Alive

Female entrepreneurs are often under considerable pressure to not only create businesses, in what was previously known as a man's world, but also to generate steady income all whilst looking beautiful. This adds pressure to the many roles we already fulfill as women.

Have you ever made a list of the number of roles you play in your life? It is possible to be a wife, parent, cook, cleaner, sister, friend and entrepreneur all in the same day. Within your business, you fill the role as the captain of the boat but you also step into the shoes of the social media manager, accountant, sales manager, admin assistant and web developer. These are roles which come with a lot of pressure. Something's gotta give! And I bet you, your dressing and fitness routine takes the biggest knock… or worse, might not even exist. Maybe it never even reached any of your to-do lists because it's just too much. And that is completely understandable.

I get it, when it comes to transitioning from your role as a corporate worker or full-time parent to that of a female entrepreneur, there is a whole host of (potentially) incredibly overwhelming decisions to be made. What will you call your business, who is your niche market, where and how will you market yourself, and then, of course, the big questions: How should I dress for all of this? How am I going to express myself? How am I going to stay strong and healthy to contribute to the longevity of my business?

Let's look into 5 easy style and health habits that you can implement in your daily entrepreneurial life to ensure you thrive in your business and still be healthy and beautiful.

1. Obsess over good skincare

Your skin is your largest organ and stays with you forever. There is no option to look after it later. Especially not later when the business is doing better or when you have more money. No, you have to look after your skin right now. You have to invest in the best sun protection, moisturizer and cleanser for your face (and don't forget your body) that you can afford right now. Be religious about it.

2. Find an easy, time-effective make-up routine

Search for products within your price range and get rid of all the unnecessary products that you never use. Create an easy make-up routine and follow it every single day. This will make sure you look fresh and presentable even on days when you really do not feel like it.

3. Create a movement routine that works for you and stick to it

On day's when you are exhausted from work, you might easily convince yourself that you can work in some gym time tomorrow. But, somehow, tomorrow is also too busy. Remember this: Maintaining a positive mindset is a major key to success. Movement keeps your mind fresh and takes off the edge during stressful times. It doesn't matter if you move in the morning, afternoon or evening and it doesn't matter what kind of exercise you do. As long as it is a movement that you enjoy. Remember, you don't have to be sore from workouts, you just need to enjoy it and be able to relax.

4. Diets don't work… But this does

It sounds easy to follow instructions but in reality, it adds pressure to your day. Prescriptive diets with their generic tips of “eat this, not that”, “make sure to eat this many times a day”, etc. can be very difficult to follow - especially if you are a female entrepreneur who steps into many different roles. It becomes way too easy to grab something convenient rather than nourishing on your way to the next appointment. If your eating plan is too time-consuming, chances are it's not going to cut your priority list.

What works, you may ask?

If you shift your focus from following diet instructions to following healthy principles it will leave some room for breathing. You might even be able to make some progress. Taking the good principles from any diet and applying it to your lifestyle is the best approach to being consistent. Although it is not always easy, keeping it simple will serve your entrepreneurial lifestyle. Drink water, eat foods that are not processed and load your plate with greens. If you follow these principles you will be a healthy asset to your business without wishing for loads of extra time in your day.

5. Ignore the latest trends

If you want to own quality clothing and still have some money left at the end of the month, you should let go of any obsession you might have for trends. Yes, it's okay to incorporate one or two trendy items per season, but don't become a slave to fashion trends. Rather focus on investment pieces and timeless, classic basics that will last you a very long time. You might spend a little more per item, but in the long run, you save and you do not contribute to fast fashion.

So if you juggle life by working long hours, running a home and still need to make time for yourself, remember your wellbeing needs to be the top priority to be able to invest fully in how you serve the world through your business.
