The year 2020 has been filled with a lot of uncertainties, low productivity levels and time loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic which hit the whole world at large. Most businesses dwindled and some only survived by grace. In all this, it meant business owners, entrepreneurs, and employees as well, have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure they survive. That said and done, it is a few days to end 2020 and start on a new slate, and it is only proper for every entrepreneur to unplug and take time for self-care.
Self-care is essential because it is prioritizing taking care of oneself. It is an important practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, this practice helps in re-energizing and getting time to connect with family away from the usual daily work. So, here’s how to call it a wrap!
Express gratitude for this year
A great way to prepare for the new-year is to take some time to express gratitude for the past year. As a business leader or entrepreneur, it is advisable to hold a small event to appreciate your team and also get the opportunity to share the vision for the following year.
Create a to do list
Start putting together what you desire to achieve for the next year. You can always scratch something out if you ever desire to take a different route. Creating the to do list and communicating it well to your subordinates or colleagues helps the vision for the new year to be clearer and roles well defined.
Set expectations and communicate with the clients
Unplugging should not result in the business falling apart or suffering. If one decides to take time off they should be able to advise their clients in advance and also ensure they have been orders in advance. Internally, there should always be someone on standby in case of emergency. Business should go on as usual, even if it means working less hours or virtually.
Learn to say No
As an entrepreneur, you networking and acquiring opportunities is a plus and key to success. However, setting boundaries and knowing when to say no is essential to maintaining a healthy and balanced life in which your needs are equally met. There is no need to be always available or over-schedule ourselves, leading to burnout. There is need to say no and take a step back at times.
