Craft your future for a life you deserve and want

February 5, 2016 Melanie Hawken

Guest Blog by Karen Wessels, co-founder and COO of VA Connect

Are you living the life you want? Are you where you want to be? We are all good at planning, whether it’s our children’s birthday parties, an overseas vacation, a trip to the dentist. Yet when it comes to your life, things change a bit. You don’t search for the perfect life, you craft it.

Have you heard of the terms ”Life Design” or “Blueprint for your success”? Thanks to Timothy Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, more and more people are embracing a nomadic life, of travelling with their laptops and working from anywhere in the world. This lifestyle embraces a certain life design, where you get to call the shots while making money and doing all the things you love and enjoy.

Here are 3 ways you can begin designing your own lifestyle:

1. You call the shots

You have the choice to decide what works for you, when you want to work, how you want to spend your days. You have unique capabilities that can be applied to what you are passionate about. Life from this angle is completely different from the status quo, and that’s just fine, you are crafting your future!

2. It’s okay to be selfish

Now that you have realised you are the captain of this ship, it’s time to take a bit of time out and figure out what it is that you want your future to look like. This is the time to craft a blueprint for your unique lifestyle.

Do some good ol’ fashioned soul searching, and visualise what it is you would like to have your life on this earth look like. If you’re into travelling for instance, be sure to incorporate that in your lifestyle design. Or if you enjoy photography, why not take a photography course and start a blog with your amazing photos?

3. Take the leap already!

There’s no time like the present. If we wait for the economy to improve or your car to be paid off, well, then we know it’s never going to happen. There’s never been a better time than right now. Take action and start crafting the future of your dreams.

Even if you take small steps, at least it’s a start. At these moments it can be daunting, however, remember that this is your future, your passion, your vision.

Design the life you want and deserve. Be brave, venture forth and embrace happiness.
