Neidy Carvalho is the founder and general manager of Imbe-Consultoria, Serviços e Soluções, Lda, also known as Imbe CSS. Her business, which was founded in 2019, is located in Mozambique. In the beginning, it was focused only on environmental consultancy, but then expanded to water treatment, HSQ and Energy sector (renewable and non-renewable energy). Imbe CSS helps other companies to become more green and environmentally aware in their day-to-day practices. It also provides environment permits, audits, monitoring and evaluations, environmental studies, assistance, and more as they need. The business has grown as it became more serious in its focus. Neidy considers herself persistent and studious, traits developed over the past few years. She now has almost 7 years of experience in the environmental area, and is surrounded with a young and vibrant team of 3 people. In the future, Neidy aspires to grow the business further, and help companies and others to be more sustainable as the planet requires of us.

Regina Augusto Charumar, founder, Geração Consciente (Mozambique)

Regina Augusto Charumar is a social impact entrepreneur, an Environmentalist, PhD student in Sustainability, Teacher, Jurist and founder of the environmental movement Geração Consciente. Geração Consciente is a non-profit environmental volunteering movement, made up of hundreds of young volunteers, who carry out environmental activities throughout the country. With the aim of raising environmental awareness, educating and raising awareness in society, she carries out campaigns to clean and restore the mangroves, clean the beach and public spaces, plant trees in schools and communities, lectures, environmental workshops and raise awareness. The Geração Consciente environmental movement was created on May 2022, and has already carried out hundreds of environmental activities across the country. The goal is to build an environmentally conscious generation.

It was John Elkington who in 1994 originally coined the phrase ‘Triple Bottom Line’ to change the thinking within business from the view that ‘business is in the business to do business’, to, in his words “…provoke deeper thinking about capitalism and its future” (here). The trouble was (as John himself admitted here) that this quickly became an accounting add-on, and with that, for many (not all, as he highlights ‘heroes’ Denmark’s Novo Nordisk, Anglo-Dutch Unilever, and Germany’s Covestro), the tick boxes appeared and behind the smoke and mirrors, double counting, and dare we say it, being ‘economical with the truth’, the talk just increased, leaving the entire purpose - positive impact at scale through the transformation of capitalism, in the dust.

Lutea Magaia Alberto, an Environmental and Agribusiness professional, is the founder and manager of Mentes Sustentáveis (Sustainable Minds) in Mozambique. She has a degree in Agronomic Engineering, from Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique and more than 7 years of experience as an Environmentalist dedicating herself to areas such as Environmental Education, Waste Management and Ecosystem Recovery. She founded Mentes Sustentáveis in 2019 and has over the years been a pioneer in raising awareness of Mozambique’s environmental problems and bringing practical, ecological and sustainable solutions. Since then she has been dedicated to the development of eco-business models, development of eco-friendly products and carrying out environmental education activities, contributing to the green ecosystem in Mozambique.

In a recent interview, climate-change activist Greta Thunberg when asked how optimistic she was that the COP26 conference could achieve anything, responded "Nothing has changed from previous years really. The leaders will say, 'we'll do this and we'll do this, and we will put our forces together and achieve this', and then they will do nothing. Maybe some symbolic things and creative accounting and things that don't really have a big impact. We can have as many COPs as we want, but nothing real will come out of it.” (See here her interview), but should we be so negative about the work that our politicians are about to do in a wet and windy Glasgow in the UK?
