“Diverse African culture has been neglected for far too long, and to some extent there has been a total extinction of some tangible and intangible cultures. Spot Africa recognized the need to help preserve this lost heritage by highlighting them in a medium that is well versed in post civilization.”

What inspired you to start your company?

African culture and societal practice play a crucial role in the moral fabric and the day-to-day life of our current generation. Notwithstanding the injustice of the native cultural practices which have been long forgotten and buried in the sunset of no return, Spot Africa Media envisage to enlighten these cultural norms through film. The art of storytelling in our times has been refined, therefore the majority of the content our consumers enjoy is entertainment that upholds their diverse cultural practices.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

The diverse African culture has been neglected for far too long, and to some extent there has been a total extinction of some tangible and intangible cultures. “My aspirations for my company are to be a household name for authentic storytelling and a safe house for identifying and nurturing talents.”

“What gives me the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur is service to humanity that impacts lives positively thus leading to a healthy society where we all co-exist and live harmoniously.”

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Growing up in a modest home, I was instilled with values of compassion and empathy from a young age. My parents were both entrepreneurs having ventured into real estate and farming, and emphasizing the importance of giving back to community. It was during my formative years that my desire to serve humanity begun to take root. I have often volunteered at local shelters and community centres, and my experience of interacting with different personalities has greatly impacted her course in start-up ventures that incorporate young talented youths to great exposure.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

To be a household name for authentic storytelling and a safe house for identifying and nurturing talents.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Service to humanity that impacts lives positively thus leading to a healthy society where we all co-exist and live harmoniously.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Why LoA loves it…

Telling authentic African stories that celebrate local and regional cultures and traditions is so important, and making those stories accessible through the media of video ensures they can be seen and heard by many. Betty David and her team are tapping into the power of visual media to make local stories connect and resonate with audiences. It’s good to see independent film-making and content generation coming from passion-driven entrepreneurs on the continent such as Betty and the team at Spot Africa Media. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
