Barbara Kamba-Nyathi, a Zimbabwean entrepreneur creating an intuitive wellness platform

November 6, 2022 Melanie Hawken

Barbara Kamba-Nyathi, founder, Bold Dialogue Investments PVT Ltd (Zimbabwe)

Startup Story

For those looking for a safe space for healing and personal transformation, entrepreneur Barbara Kamba-Nyathi has created Bold Dialogue Investments PVT Ltd. Launched in 2019 in Zimbabwe, this lifestyle and wellness business helps people to live a more purposeful, authentic and fulfilled life.

LoA learned more about Barbara’s vision and impact driven mission for her business and how it is helping others to transform their lives.

What does your company do?

Lifestyle & Wellness Coaching - to help you live an aligned and purposeful life so you operate from your space of excellence.
Eclectic Psychotherapy - to facilitate generational and inner child trauma healing.
Inspirational Speaking - to inspire you to rise above your circumstances and be the best version of yourself.
Ku Komezya Spots - curated immersive nature and spiritual experiences centered around healing and holistic transformation.
Radio Broadcasting - SkyzMetroFM Trailblazing Queens and Men’s Emotional & Mental Wellness.
Bold Dialogue Magazine - empowering women from the bedroom to the boardroom.
Bold Dialogue Talk Show - online television.
Theatre Productions - cathartic plays about life challenges and less spoken about issues.

“Bold Dialogue is an intuitive wellness platform that facilitates healing, ignites hope and brings the possibility of boldly living a life that honours your passions and dreams.”

What inspired you to start your company?

My passion to serve through healing, and my desire to be there for other women in the way women have been showing up for me, made it possible for the inception of my company. I wanted to provide a safe space for all to heal and transform holistically. Bold Dialogue is an intuitive wellness platform that facilitates healing, ignites hope and brings the possibility of boldly living a life that honours your passions and dreams. We work with women across Africa, equipping them with the support, mentorship and tools required to transcend trauma in order to truly operate from a place of excellence.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Because we recognize the power of community in our culture, we intentionally engage men in our work. We lead heart-to-heart conversations that pave the way for emotional and mental healing because empowered men, empower the women in their lives. Our culturally-informed offerings range from curated immersive nature and spiritual experiences, radio talk shows, workshops and masterclasses, to coaching and psychotherapy. We also publish a monthly magazine that reaches readers across the globe. Whether we’re in the village coaching our young leaders, or facilitating a virtual corporate training, our mission remains the same: To serve through healing.

Tell us a little about your team

Founder & CEO
Barbara Kamba-Nyathi knows what it’s like to be stripped of everything — who you thought you were, people you thought would be in your life forever, your prized possessions… On her journey, she’s survived cervical cancer, endometriosis, a hysterectomy, a divorce, abuse and even living with an autoimmune disease. Each challenge came with its own set of lessons, but she’s continually seen the power that comes with redefining and rebuilding your identity on your own terms. Barbara has made it her life work to create space for this transformation for those searching for a better way to be, and Bold Dialogue is a manifestation of that purpose.

Chief Creative Officer
Sondlane Nyamezela Dube has been acquainted with powerlessness, being uncertain with every waking day, to want, to hope, to fear, to be in pain, to face death and to be without options in a place that should not only feel like home but be home. He knows how it all feels and it took him a long time to learn that he had the power to free himself all along. As he has learnt of his own power, he is here to connect you to yours too.

Media & Communications Officer
Fiona Mpofu is passionate about providing people with safe platforms to communicate, listen and be heard. She understands the importance of people telling their own stories in their own way and gaining new perspectives and information. Being a multimedia personality Fiona is successfully transforming the face of media accessibility to the people through radio, print and video.

Grants Management Officer
Nomagugu Nyathi is a human rights professional with 10 years of experience in varying capacities in the civil society space. Her expertise is in project management, research and events planning. She is currently a Grants Consultant for Bold Dialogue guiding the team on how to scale up its funding. She is an artist at heart - loves music and collecting art.

Legal Advisor
Linah Charity Mamombe knows her way around any document that she comes across. She possesses a legal eye and with her experience and knowledge she knows how it is to play on the good side of the law. She ensures that the team maintains law and order.

IT Specialist
Pride Ndlovu popularly known as Mayibongwe is a firm believer of self-determination, regeneration and development. He has been broke, broken and rejected and none of this has spelt the end of the road for him. He is driven by a passion to uplift the lives of the down trodden through embracing IT, AI, and imparting knowledge and skills to the young generation because the future is technology. He provides value adding platforms to the youths and underprivileged members of society through his voluntary work.

“We work with women across Africa, equipping them with the support, mentorship and tools required to transcend trauma in order to truly operate from a place of excellence.”

“The most satisfaction comes from seeing emotional and mental paradigm shifts in the people we engage with and being mentioned in places and platforms such as this one.”

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I have been on the entrepreneurial journey since 2009, back then my ex-husband and I started our very first business. We opened a medical centre that offered medical, psychotherapy and physiotherapy services in the city of Windhoek in Namibia. We went on to open a second medical centre, a Men's Clinic, a sushi bar and a women's clothing boutique as well. After we divorced, I moved back home to Zimbabwe where I started Bold Dialogue. Bold Dialogue has enjoyed the growth and success she basks in because of the power of Africanism. In 2019 we got a capital grant from the Tony Elumelu Foundation. We have been recognised on so many platforms, won several awards and been nominated for various awards too. We have expanded into media thanks to SkyzMetroFM in Bulawayo that has dared to believe in us and the potential in our work.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

We are working towards hosting women from our beautiful continent and the world over at our KuKomezya retreat next year in September. We are launching a talk show with a live audience next year in January, we are partnering with Afrluencer by sponsoring one of their annual awards in the coming year. We also look forward to signing up more emotional and wellness clients from around Africa.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

The most satisfaction comes from seeing emotional and mental paradigm shifts in the people we engage with and being mentioned in places and platforms such as this one.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Remember we are here to cheer you on and support your start-up. We are your tribe, so you are never alone. We are because of each other.
