In the darkest nights, the stars still shine

by Eldari Visser

I am sure if anybody writes another article about COVID-19 you will surely swipe on and away. Seriously we’ve had enough constant reminders of a thief amongst us. What if we were so deeply affected that we are still reeling and trying to grasp for air? What if we still don’t have an idea of how our business is going to survive or even where to start again? What if you have lost more than you could ever imagine? What if all you can see right now is the darkness and the stark reality of you can’t “see” where to turn to next?

Let’s do our normal exercise. What do we see in nature?

As humans we don’t have the amazing capacity of night vision like the animal kingdom and that feels a bit like a downer! It could have been a nifty super power, yet again we don’t need night vision to stay alive or to hunt. Yeah!

Night time over the planes and in the jungle is a very scary time. You either have to stay very alert not to become food or you have to focus on getting food otherwise you starve. I don’t really know which side of the coin is worse. Nature at night is quite pleasant, but the animal noises are both scary and soothing. This symbolizes life.

Darkness doesn’t means death here. It means for many the time to scavenge in private, to move litters to a new den, to move under the light and safety of the night to a new home, to start the long walk back to the water hole so that the scorching heat doesn’t get you to give up or die halfway....the darkness does have many advantages.

It brings rest for many. It also displays the glory of the stars. I yet have to meet someone that is not impressed by stars! Mostly those far away from city lights. The ones that let us catch our breath. The first thing you have to do whilst in the darkness is to look UP!

Pathways are laid out in the sky ; storyboards can emerge and even destinies are read. It feels like hope doesn’t it?

So dear entrepreneur if you find yourself and your business in the darkness, sit down for a while and look up. Stay there under the quietness of the night and let the hope resurface. All the darkness disappears at the sign of first light, which is in nature known as the dawning of new opportunities to graze soft, juicy food.

In all the dark days we have stars around us, unfortunately for “city lights” we don’t see them clearly anymore.

My wish for you is that this night shall pass soon and that the new juicy growths will sprout and soon be visible. If it means that you have to move to another grassland, or jungle... that is also ok.

Till next time.

Jungle hugs
