Lioness Launch / South Africa’s More Than Golf launches inaugural event to showcase talented caddies

Great golfers need great caddies. Ask anyone who plays professionally and they will tell you that the role of the caddy is critical to their own performances. But they often don’t get the recognition or support they deserve. In Johannesburg, South Africa, a new golf event is being launched on 8 March 2020 to shine a spotlight on talented caddies who have a great game of their own.

South Africa has always produced some of the world’s best golfers, but it also has a depth of talent amongst its caddies, although this often goes unrecognized. But that is about to change with the launch of the inaugural Bosso Ke Mang (meaning “Who's the Boss?”) Golf Event in Houghton, Johannesburg on 8 March 2020. The event is being organised by professional golf management company, More Than Golf, which is the entrepreneurial venture founded by Didintle Motsuenyane. The aim of this special event is to appreciate and give back to the caddies who work so hard. On the day, Llewellyn Barnes, known in the media as “The Homeless Caddie” will be joining the event. Five months ago, Llewellyn was a homeless caddie living on the streets of Pretoria. Against all the odds, this talented 59-year-old has been given the opportunity to participate in a Sunshine Senior Tour event, the Fidelity Pro-Am, on March 16 and 17 at the Country Club in Johannesburg. Funds raised at the Bosso Ke Mang event will go towards supporting Llewellyn on the forthcoming Sunshine Senior Tour.

Read Llewellyn's story.

The aim of the launch of the inaugural Bosso Ke Mang Golf Event is not only to raise important funds for Llewellyn, but also to create memories with golfers and their caddies as team members to find out...actually, who's the boss? The event format will be betterball. Caddies must be registered with any club in South Africa to qualify as a team member and to play on the day.

Speaking about the role played by More Than Golf (Pty) Ltd in organizing this special golf event, founder Didintle Motsuenyane says:

“At More Than Golf, the main focus is in managing and implementing exceptional golfing experiences. Through this approach, the company has built a solid foundation upon which to deliver world class golf events and tournaments. We create, manage and execute memorable golf events and we pride ourselves in our ability to foster noteworthy relationships that can be leveraged to unlock further value for the business. Our main focus is in giving our clients personal and exceptional golfing experiences and, at the same time, giving back. We are involved in all aspects and levels of the golf industry; through this we have built a solid basis upon which to deliver world class golf events and tournaments.

More Than Golf’s service offering within the golf portfolio includes:

  • Golf-Day Conceptualization

  • Holistic Event Management

  • RSVP Management

  • Experience Creation

  • Sponsorship Sourcing

Adding on the impact of this inaugural event, Didintle says:

“Our job is only fully completed when we rise and we lift others up!”
