Sam Blake, founder of Skinadore Holistic Skincare (Zimbabwe)

As more and more people are becoming conscious about the type of products they put onto their skin, the desire to find more natural solutions is growing. In Zimbabwe, Sam Blake, founder of Skinadore Holistic Skincare and an experienced Aesthetician herself, has the solution.

LoA found out more about this caring business and brand from its founder Sam Blake this month.

“SkinAdore products embody a decade of herbal craftsmanship and experience, and several centuries of unsurpassed skin rejuvenation techniques unique to Africa.”

What inspired you to start your company?

As an Aesthetician in a country experiencing high inflation, I found it extremely hard to recommend after-care products to my clients. The market was flooded with cheap, counterfeit and "harmful" cosmetics, and through analysis I saw this to be a cause in the worrying trend in hiked adult acne, dermatitis and other skin ailments. Still.... good skincare was found miles away! "Skin yekuchando" has been a popular phrase amongst Zimbabweans, referring to an even toned, glowing skin that signals one lives in the cooler Diaspora. By understanding the true physiology of skin, Skin Adore aims to educate whilst healing and perfecting skin one client at a time. The Savanna skin type is particularly prone to irritation, inflammation, and redness. It is very sensitive and tends toward warmth and redness, which can be heightened by using the wrong products. There is a need to focus on choosing skin care products that are calming, cooling, and they also need to provide sufficient hydration. Products that most closely match your own skin ‘soils will promote optimal balance. Voila……Skin yekuchando!

This is not a new brand, products have been available exclusively for Sam’s clients for the past two years on prescription, now the wholesome goodness is available for everyone to indulge in!

Why should anyone use your service or product?

SkinAdore is handcrafted by an aesthetician with a Dermatology background. Our products embody a decade of herbal craftsmanship and experience, and several centuries of unsurpassed skin rejuvenation techniques unique to Africa. All of our products are handmade, using only the freshest ingredients known to nature without harming animals or using any harsh chemicals. This is a brand that’s been tailored with the Savannah skin in mind... to tame the warm and sensitive skin and help it achieve its best state yet!

Tell us a little about your team

Sam Blake is the founder and cosmetic formulator. Our PR is handled by BrandZa under Zandile Ndlovu (the zazalicious one) a radio and events personality. Liberty,  a seasoned marketer handles marketing. The team or SKIN LOVING TRIBE doesn't stop there... it has retailers including NuFiveAv Pharmacy, spas and individual reps who help push the brand. We all work within the brand's ethics.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I am an Aesthetician and Spa manager first for a leading spa in Zimbabwe. Previously, I've established and run the Beauty Within Spa in England before moving back to Zimbabwe.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Scope and scale: To expand in the Southern African region and supply ethical spas with amazing, clean cosmetics.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

A finished product gives me more satisfaction than a salary at the end of month. The satisfaction that comes from hard work and determination cannot be measured.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

There's no better time to start...DO IT NOW! When a passion and a career come together, even the sky ceases to be the limit!

Why LoA loves it….

There is no doubt that as consumers become more aware of what goes into making their cosmetics and skincare products, they become more conscious consumers in their purchasing and skincare routines. The market for locally produced, crafted with care, natural skincare products that are safe to use and kinder to the environment is growing. That’s where brands such as Skin Adore come in, providing thoughtful, handcrafted, effective products that harness the power of local ingredients and centuries old knowledge and insights. Sam Blake is making her own mark on this important growing market with her Skin Adore products. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo of Lionesses of Africa
