Just enjoy the show!

March 26, 2018 Melanie Hawken

by Lizl Naude, founder of Lilly Loompa

My husband can be quite philosophical at times. Both of us are big movie watchers, and try to always dissect a movie once done watching. We watched the Brad Pitt movie, Moneyball, recently. And I think, since we saw it the first time, my hubby has watched it at least four times again! Here are some thoughts stimulated by that experience.

In the movie Moneyball, there is a precious scene featuring the lead character Billy and his daughter, and she sings to him for the first time. She sings the most honest and beautiful song called, “The Show”. (Original song by Lenka)

Here is an extract from the song’s lyrics:

“I'm just a little girl lost in the moment
I'm so scared but I don't show it
I can't figure it out, it's bringing me down
I know I've got to let it go and just enjoy the show
Just enjoy the show”

From this movie my husband got the revelation that whatever happens in our lives, we should just enjoy the show. Whatever comes our way, we should just try and see the bright side of the experience.

There is a saying that goes: “We live life forward but we only understand it backwards.”

So, here’s my thought to leave you with. Through all the hardship and trials, through the momentous times, through times of both victory and challenges…try and learn the lesson and JUST ENJOY THE SHOW!

Lizl Naude is the founder of Lilly Loompa in South Africa, a company that creates beautiful and usable products made with recycled material. Lilly Loompa's “Rubbish Range” is the result of Lizl's craving to deliver pieces that are completely "green". Lizl is a self-taught designer and initially started designing and making furniture because she couldn’t afford to buy new pieces to furnish her home. She started to scout and source for budget material and quickly realised that most people discard of very usable materials. The company manufactures a variety of products, from storage holders, lamps, to dinner table accessories, among others. All materials are carefully sourced from waste and sustainably reimagined as beautiful, yet purposeful products. Eco-friendly, handcrafted and 100% South African, each Lilly Loompa piece, once trash, is now a meaningful piece of treasure.
