Milena Barroca, a Mozambican entrepreneur specializing in business consulting and event organization

May 12, 2024 Melanie Hawken

Milena Barroca, founder, WH Impact (Mozambique)

Startup Story

Milena Barroca is an entrepreneur and business consultant with a background in Economics, and the founder of WH Impact, a company based in Mozambique. The business specializes in Business Consulting & Event Organization. With over 8 years of experience in Business Administration and Marketing, Milena, and her team drive business growth for success, connecting companies and individuals through impactful events. WH Impact adopts a philosophy of sustainable management, promoting significant and lasting growth for its clients.

LoA spoke to the enterprising Milena Barroca about her passion for business consulting and her ambitions for the future.

What does your company do?

We are a company specializing in business consulting and event organization. In addition to providing our clients with a range of business services such as Management Consulting, Business Support, HR Consulting, Corporate Training, and Corporate Event Management, we manage impactful projects related to the development of businesswomen consultants (SheConsults Meetups) & entrepreneurial mothers (Executive Moms).

“What sets WH Impact apart is our holistic and passionate approach to driving our clients' success. We're not just consultants, we're committed partners to sustainable and meaningful business growth.”

What inspired you to start your company?

My passion for business development and sustainable, healthy management inspired me to start my business. I wanted to replicate the successes of good management in various Mozambican companies and help them grow towards success.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

What sets WH Impact apart is our holistic and passionate approach to driving our clients' success. We're not just consultants, we're committed partners to sustainable and meaningful business growth. Our events aren't just gatherings, they're transformative experiences that connect, inspire, and propel.

Tell us a little about your team:

We are a small, creative, and happy team, all highly experienced and committed to making a difference and creating impact. Despite our size, we bring a wealth of creative ideas and innovative solutions to the table, driven by our passion for excellence. Together, we strive to deliver exceptional results and leave a lasting impression on our clients and community.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Let me share a bit about my entrepreneurial journey. It all began when I started organizing and promoting events while finishing High School. I helped organize the prom and fundraising events for it, and that's where my passion for event organization started. As I worked in other companies in the administration field, I discovered other talents and callings. In 2022, I decided to combine these two areas and start my own business. Entrepreneurship has been one of the most challenging things I've done, but with each achievement, my drive to continue grows stronger.

“We are a small, creative, and happy team, all highly experienced and committed to making a difference and creating impact. Despite our size, we bring a wealth of creative ideas and innovative solutions to the table, driven by our passion for excellence.”

“Together, we strive to deliver exceptional results and leave a lasting impression on our clients and community.”

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

We have many plans for the future, starting with expanding our team, growing our client portfolio, and onboarding more local businesses. We aim to work with companies located in the provinces of Mozambique and establish a presence in the international market with our Executive Mom & SheConsults Meetups projects. Our goal is to become better known and to establish ourselves as a successful brand.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

My greatest satisfaction as an entrepreneur is knowing that I am building something from scratch, overcoming barriers, pursuing a dream, and making it happen. I also find satisfaction in knowing that I am leaving a legacy for my family that I hope will endure for generations to come. Additionally, contributing to my community and my country's economy brings me great satisfaction.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

The biggest piece of advice I can give to other women looking to start-up is this: It's okay to make mistakes, it's okay to fear the unknown, it's okay to be rejected and not understood. But it's not okay to give up, it's not okay to not make things better, it's not okay to doubt your abilities and potential. Start, Learn, Improve, Win!
