May 5, 2024 Melanie Hawken

Luisa Hussene, founder, Doce sal Serviços (Mozambique)

Startup Story

Luisa Hussene is the founder of Doce sal Serviços, a business dedicated to floristry, catering, and gift services in Mozambique. The company specializes in commemorative events offering clients a wide range of decoration, catering, and florist services. Luisa is based in Maputo, and also works as a marketing and advertising manager in a software company.

LoA spoke to the enterprising Luisa Hussene about her love of floristry, balancing business and corporate life, and her ambitions for the future.

“Doce sal Serviços manages to do the extraordinary from the basics and thus adds value to what the customer has to offer.”

“My future plans are to expand to companies with branches in other provinces and become an international reference point for other young entrepreneurs in the same field.”

What inspired you to start your company?

The creation of my company was inspired by my family who, since my childhood, encouraged me to offer my talents to others in the area in which I specialize. Even when I was still very young, I was already making improved and different foods, I was always exploring family party scenes to offer the best to my family, and so I decided to invest in studying the area.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Doce sal Serviços manages to do the extraordinary from the basics and thus adds value to what the customer has to offer.

Tell us a little about your team:

My team is made up of me and my delivery colleague. Since Doce sal Serviços's day-to-day operations are not static, it was necessary to hire someone to transport the products to meet customers. The delivery man works in constant collaboration with me while I place the orders, he gets them to the customers, and this way we make our schedule dynamic.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

In 2020, I started making birthday gifts. I made them and published them on my social media platforms, and in a short time they started to have a positive impact until the clients themselves started asking me to offer more related services. So I went from giving gifts to catering, decoration events, breakfast trays, and floristry.

“What gives me the most satisfaction is being able to bring a difference to the client, being part of my clients' best memories, and being challenged to improve.”

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Expand to companies with branches in other provinces and become an international reference point for other young entrepreneurs in the same field.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Being able to bring a difference to the client, being part of my clients' best memories, and being challenged to improve.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Just start, even if you feel insecure. Don’t expect to have all the tools ready. We are the result of strong families, our parents did the most for us, and now it's our turn to elevate the names of Africa.

Why LoA loves it…

Starting out in business can be daunting, but when you harness your passion and then look for market niches where that passion can appeal to others, you have a good take off point. As a result, she is winning her customers over to her brand through a great product and great service. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
