Suné Theisinger and Dr Juanri Jonck, two dynamic players in the aesthetic industry in South Africa

May 18, 2025 Melanie Hawken

Suné Theisinger and Dr Juanri Jonck, founders, BST Global (South Africa)

Startup Story

Suné Theisinger is the ceo of BST Global in South Africa, a dynamic player in the rapidly evolving aesthetic industry. As the ceo of BST Global, Suné is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the business. Dr Juanri Jonck is a qualified medical doctor with a degree from the University of Pretoria and is the Medical Director of BST Global. Dr Jonck leads with a deep commitment to hormone optimisation, evidence-based aesthetic medicine, and holistic wellness.

Suné is a perpetual entrepreneur with a remarkable track record of building several successful companies over the last fifteen years, and is known for her unique ability to connect the dots between demand and supply. Her primary role is to provide strategic leadership, drive growth, and ensure the company's success in the Pharmaceutical and Aesthetic industry.

Dr Jonck’s approach is rooted in the belief that true beauty begins within – blending clinical precision with whole-body health. She is also a skilled formulator, developing advanced, science-backed skincare products that reflect her passion for results-driven innovation. In addition to her clinical work, she lectures on IV nutrient therapy, helping healthcare professionals implement safe, effective protocols in their own practices. At the heart of her work is a genuine love for people and science. Whether through a treatment, a product, or a conversation, Dr Jonck’s mission remains the same: to empower others to feel confident, healthy, and radiant – inside and out.

LoA spoke to Suné Theisinger and Dr Juanri Jonck about their entrepreneurial journey to date and their shared mission to build a true One-Stop Shop in the aesthetic industry.

When did you start your business?

Since its inception in early 2023, BST Global has emerged as a dynamic player in the rapidly evolving aesthetic industry. Born from the collective expertise and industry insight of its visionary shareholders, BST aims to meet the surging demand for high-quality and affordable products in the aesthetic markets. Today, we have a dynamic team of 12 individuals.

“My vision was to create a platform that not only delivers exceptional products but also empowers general practitioners by becoming a true one-stop shop.”

What does your company do?

BST secures exclusive distribution contracts with leading global companies and manufacturers to provide the Sub-Saharan African market with the most advanced technology and products in the aesthetic market, such as their hero product from Laboratories Hyamed SA Geneva, Sweden.

What inspired you to start your company?

I saw a significant gap in the aesthetic industry - especially around access, affordability, and support. My vision was to create a platform that not only delivers exceptional products but also empowers general practitioners by becoming a true one-stop shop. We wanted to simplify access to top-tier technology, education, and business tools all under one umbrella.

What makes your business, service or product special?

BST stands apart as a true One-Stop Shop in the aesthetic industry. Offering cost-effective, high-quality solutions without compromising on excellence. From our online store and home-use products to equipment savings and personalized formulations, everything we do is designed to support general practitioners with ease and efficiency.  We take pride in our strong regulatory and pharmaco-legal capabilities, led by our in-house pharmaceutical team who manage product registration, development, and compliance across a wide range of medicines and devices. The team also drives product development for complementary medicine and handles licensing for medical devices.

“More than just growth, our mission is to reshape the aesthetic industry - to raise the standard, to elevate practitioners, and to expand what’s possible for aesthetic medicine on the continent.”

Tell us a little about your team.

BST is powered by an extraordinary team of women, each one a powerhouse in her field. From a chartered accountant and a strategic sales force to a corporate communications lead and an inspiring medical advisor, our team brings a dynamic mix of expertise and heart. And yes - we do have one token gent: our ever-resourceful sourcing executive from South & Mideast Asia, who holds his own brilliantly in a sea of strong women. We thrive on collaboration, creativity, and an unshakeable belief in our shared vision.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Suné Theisinger - My journey has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding one. I’ve had to build from the ground up, often in the face of doubt and difficulty. While I don't come from a traditional entrepreneurial background, I’ve always had the drive to create, to solve problems, and to challenge the status quo. Every hurdle has shaped me, and every success has been a reminder that resilience pays off.

Dr Juanri Jonck - Not exactly. Our parents weren’t entrepreneurs, but our mother was an exceptional role model. She was incredibly hardworking and compassionate - a powerful example for two daughters to learn from. Her example showed us that determination and empathy are a winning combination.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Suné Theisinger - My dream is for BST to become the largest aesthetic provider in South Africa. But more than just growth, our mission is to reshape the aesthetic industry - to raise the standard, to elevate practitioners, and to expand what’s possible for aesthetic medicine on the continent. It’s not just about making a sale; it’s about imparting into people and their companies, helping doctors build thriving, sustainable practices. I want us to be the catalyst for real transformation.

Dr Juanri Jonck - We aspire to revolutionise the aesthetic industry, to shift the narrative so that anti-ageing isn’t just about surface-level correction, but about holistic rejuvenation that starts from within. True aesthetic wellness is multidimensional, and we aim to lead that transformation.

“We aspire to revolutionise the aesthetic industry, to shift the narrative so that anti-ageing isn’t just about surface-level correction, but about holistic rejuvenation that starts from within.”

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Suné Theisinger - Knowing that we're making a tangible difference in people's lives. Not just in patients' lives, but in the lives of doctors who are growing their practices and gaining confidence in their craft. That ripple effect of empowerment and transformation is what drives me every day.

Dr Juanri Jonck - Without a doubt, it’s having the opportunity to teach and guide new, passionate aesthetic doctors. Watching them grow and excel is incredibly fulfilling.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Suné Theisinger - Don’t quit. Keep showing up - especially on the hard days. You’ll face losses, make sacrifices, and it won’t always be easy. But every setback is a lesson, and every challenge builds strength. Stay the course, trust the process, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Dr Juanri Jonck - Be kind. Be generous. The world is already tough enough. Sharing your experience and wisdom, without expectation, has a way of circling back to you in ways you’d never imagine.

Why LoA loves it…

For many women entrepreneurs who build a high-growth business, it starts with seeing a significant gap in the marketplace, and then filling that gap with a high quality solution that customers want. This is exactly what the team at BST Global have done, building a business that is addressing a specific gap in the growing aesthetic industry - especially around access, affordability, and support. This is a high growth business to watch over the coming months and years as it expands its customer base and world class product and service offerings. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
