What inspired you to start your company?

What inspired me to start my company was my fascination with the agro-processing sector, which combines agriculture and industry in a unique way, transforming agricultural products into value-added consumer goods. The possibility of innovating within this sector was one of the biggest drivers for the creation of my project. Agroprocessing offers numerous opportunities for technological innovations, such as improving conservation and processing techniques, which can not only increase efficiency, but also improve the quality of products and extend their shelf life. It was during this period of exploration and learning that the idea of creating a project focused on agroprocessing was born, with a clear objective: to value local production and contribute to the supply of healthy and sustainable food in communities. I believe that by working with local products and applying innovations in processing, we can create solutions that benefit both producers and consumers, while promoting sustainability and local economic development.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

My business journey began in 2018 and materialized in 2021, with the founding of CLL Consultoria e Serviços E.I, where I am currently General Director. I have always had a great interest in the agro-industrial sector and a genuine desire to contribute significantly to the valorization of local production. Before founding my company, I worked on several projects related to agriculture, nutrition and sustainability, which provided me with a solid foundation to understand market needs and identify opportunities for innovation in the agro-processing sector.

The turning point for creating my company came when I realized the huge untapped potential of local agricultural products such as tubers and fruits. The idea of using parts of these products, such as fruit peels, for agro-processing motivated me, as in addition to adding value to these resources, it would meet the growing demand for healthier and more sustainable foods. During this period, I invested in my training, participated in workshops, and sought guidance from specialized mentors to better understand processing technologies and best practices in the sector, ensuring quality and efficiency in my business.

I believe that my business journey began simply, but with a clear vision: transforming my country's natural resources into value-added products, benefiting both the local economy and communities. It was from this vision that the idea of starting Nutrekaya, a company focused on innovation and sustainability in agroprocessing, was born. With a lot of work, perseverance and commitment, we were able to start offering products that meet consumers' needs in a responsible and efficient way.

Throughout this journey, I faced challenges, but I also had the opportunity to celebrate important achievements, such as the development of products that really make a difference in people's lives and the local economy. With each step, my passion for creating innovative and sustainable solutions in the agro-industrial sector grows, and my journey continues to evolve, always seeking to improve the way we contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Nutrekaya's future plans and aspirations are deeply aligned with the promising growth of the agro-industrial sector in Mozambique. We recognize the country's immense agricultural potential and the growing demand for quality processed products. Our objective is to actively contribute to the development of agroprocessing, with a clear focus on valuing local products, such as tuber flour and passion fruit peel, which represent a true wealth of Mozambican biodiversity. Crop diversification will be one of our main strategies, as we believe that expanding sources of local raw materials is essential to meet market needs and promote sustainability. Furthermore, investing in cutting-edge technology to improve production processes is one of our priorities, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Nutrekaya is committed to taking advantage of the opportunities generated by the growing appreciation of local products, offering differentiated and innovative products that promote healthy eating and strengthen the local economy. Our aspiration is to be a reference in the agro-processing sector, contributing to transforming Mozambique into a hub for high-quality processed food products, with a focus on the health and well-being of consumers. Furthermore, access to international markets is increasingly becoming a strategic priority. Improvements in infrastructure and advantageous trade agreements can facilitate our entry into new markets, expanding exports and consolidating Nutrekaya as a globally recognized brand. With this, we seek not only local success, but also to place Mozambique on the world agroprocessing map.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

What gives me the most satisfaction as an entrepreneur is knowing that I am contributing to a business that is sustainable and beneficial for both people and the environment. Sustainability is a fundamental pillar at Nutrekaya, especially in the agro-processing sector, and I believe that the use of local raw materials is essential to support farmers and promote a circular economy.

By using ingredients such as passion fruit peels, which would normally be discarded, we are able to not only reduce waste, but also create innovative and nutritious products. This not only contributes to the efficiency of our process, but also reinforces our commitment to sustainability, minimizing environmental impact and promoting the appreciation of local resources.

Furthermore, adopting sustainable and biodegradable packaging is a practice that gives us great satisfaction. We know that reducing the use of plastics and choosing more ecological solutions helps to reduce the amount of waste generated, while strengthening Nutrekaya's image of environmental responsibility. These efforts are part of our mission to create a more sustainable future, where our products not only feed, but also respect the planet.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

The biggest piece of advice I can give to other women thinking about starting a business is to invest in themselves, both in terms of knowledge and a support network. Education and training are fundamental.

Invest in your training, whether through courses, workshops or mentoring. Knowledge is the key to standing out in the sector and facing challenges with confidence and competence. Furthermore, networking is essential.

Build a network of contacts with other women entrepreneurs and professionals in the sector. Participating in events, conferences and groups can open doors, create partnership opportunities and provide valuable insights for your business.

Finally, believe in yourself. Believe in your potential, seek support when necessary, and remain persistent in the face of adversity. Remember to celebrate your achievements, whether big or small. Recognizing your victories is a powerful way to maintain motivation, confidence, and the desire to keep moving forward. Never lose the ability to dream and turn those dreams into reality.
