Irina Samade, a floral design entrepreneur creating beautiful flower arrangements and gifts for every occasion

November 24, 2024 Melanie Hawken

Irina Samade, founder and floral designer, Frangipani Flores (Mozambique)

Startup Story

Irina Samade is the founder and floral designer at Frangipani Flores in Mozambique. She has been working with Floral Art for 15 years having taken a number of specialist floral arrangement courses in Portugal, Brazil, USA and Mozambique. Her passion for flowers started very early with her mother growing violets in their garden. Then, unconsciously, she started toying with making floral arrangements for family and friends' birthdays, but at that time was very far from thinking about being a florist or opening a floristry business. However, all that changed with the launch of her floral design business, Frangipani Flores in 2014. Today, she remains curious in this specialist area of floral design and is constantly inspired by the work of renowned florists around the world.

Sou curiosa nesta área e inspiro me no trabalho de floristas renomados no mundo a fora.

LoA spoke to the creative Irina Samade about her entrepreneurial journey and the art of turning a passion for flowers into a thriving business.

“Frangipani Flores seeks to provide customers with different arrangements and flowers than usual. It seeks to innovate in order to make the customer someone special by offering something different.”

What does your company do?

We make arrangements for weddings and special occasions. We make Niova bouquets, funeral arrangements, we make corporate floral signature arrangements. During the festive season we create personalized hampers.

Fazemos arranjos para casamentos, ocasiões especiais. Fazemos buques de Niova, arranjos Fúnebres. Fazemos arranjos corporativos de assinatura Floral. Na época festiva criamos Cabazes personalizados.

What inspired you to start your company?

My company started with the lack of florists in the city of Matola at the time and I saw that it could be an opportunity to offer flowers for sale there. Then I started selling flowers only on Valentine's Day until in 2014 I decided to turn my hobby into a permanent business and I'm still here today.

What makes your company, service and products special?

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Frangipani was the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey and launched me in this business world. Thanks to the success of the business, I was able to create a brand of woven bags and accessories called Rawá, which has been on the market for 4 years.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Frangipani's aspiration plan is to create an online application for ordering flowers. Having a physical store and starting to create Vertical Gardens is our next project.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

For the work I do, my satisfaction as an entrepreneur is to help spread love to people, it's great to help customers demonstrate their gestures of love and affection. As our slogan says, "Awakening Smiles"

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Never give up on your dreams. They may not come true in a single day, but each step taken towards achieving a dream is already a journey towards victory.

Why LoA loves it…

Many successful businesses launched by women entrepreneurs start with passion and are built from there. In the case of Irina Samade, her passion for flowers started very young in life, but that passion now drives her business. She harnesses that passion to build her brand and connect with customers, helping her to stand out in the marketplace. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
