Thriving Solo in Business: Resilient Leadership Blueprint for Solo Entrepreneurs by Dr Sandra L Abbey

November 10, 2024 Melanie Hawken

Dr Sandra L Abbey

Book Review

Dr Sandra L Abbey, the multi best-selling author of business and leadership books, including her latest: Thriving Solo in Business: Resilient Leadership Blueprint for Solo Entrepreneurs, believes it’s not easy going out there as a solo-entrepreneur. But she also knows it’s possible to make waves in the business world when you know what it takes to thrive. It starts by asking why you set out as a solo entrepreneur? The chances are, you were ready to ditch the 9-5 and get more control over your life. You wanted more money to show for the work you do, and you wanted that work to be something you care passionately about. It’s a liberating journey, full of excitement and possibility… but it has a tough side too.

Solopreneurs might feel isolated much of the time, and the unpredictability can be overwhelming. With each day, you face new challenges and setbacks, each one testing your resilience and determination to succeed. What you need is a way to build your resilience as you amass your skills, transforming yourself into a confident solo leader who can lead every other role you have to embrace to success. In her latest book, Thriving Solo in Business: Resilient Leadership Blueprint for Solo Entrepreneurs, Dr Sandra L Abbey recognises that the problem for solopreneurs is that the journey is unique, and leadership guidance aimed at leaders in large organizations doesn’t reflect the challenges they face. It requires something different—something that recognizes the struggles of a solo entrepreneur and knows exactly what you can do to walk through them with confidence.

Thriving Solo in Business: Resilient Leadership Blueprint for Solo Entrepreneurs

by Dr Sandra L Abbey is a focused guide, tailored specifically to the needs of the solo-entrepreneur, and will help you amass all the skills you need to thrive and take your venture to the next level. Inside, you’ll discover:

  • A deeper understanding of your psychological makeup as a solo entrepreneur (and the unique challenges you’re facing)

  • Clear guidance for handling each of the various roles you have to fill—and prioritizing them effectively

  • Techniques for developing mental toughness and building a sense of calm into your everyday life

  • What it means to be resilient in business planning… and how to make sure you are

  • The essential financial strategies every solo entrepreneur needs in their toolkit

  • Why you need to pay attention to your health needs in order to thrive as a business person (and exactly what to focus on)

  • How you can use routine as a strong foundation for resilience that echoes in every area of your professional life

  • How to find your unique edge and build your personal brand (with practical advice for innovating within your niche)

  • What you need to do to become a thought leader… and why this will be so good for your career

Author Quotes

I have had a keen interest in leaders and leadership for over two decades. I have been searching for the secret to great leadership, but I have come to realize that there is no secret sauce. Each person must find their own path along the leadership journey, which involves continuous learning, adapting, overcoming challenges, and making mistakes.

Setting out on your own can be immensely challenging, and if you ever have doubts that you can do this, you’re in good company.

If you can build resilience into every area of your life, you’ll find your journey as an entrepreneur much easier—and success will follow.

Why LoA loves it…

Being a solopreneur can be challenging at the best of times, and often a lonely journey. Staying resilient in order to deal with the ups and downs of running a business where you are the only person working in it can be tough. That’s when it’s so important to tap into the learnings of others who have walked the path before you. Dr Sandra L Abbey’s latest book, Thriving Solo in Business: Resilient Leadership Blueprint for Solo Entrepreneurs, is a great read and taps into the author’s in depth knowledge of resilient business and leadership. If you are walking the solopreneurship path and want a little extra guidance on how to build up your own resilience levels and thrive, then this is the book for you. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
