Andrea Massamba, a Mozambican social media expert helping clients with their digital communication

November 28, 2021 Melanie Hawken

Andrea Massamba, founder, AM Support - Marketing and Publicity Agency (Mozambique)

Startup Story

Andrea Massamba is a founder of AM Support - Marketing and Publicity Agency in Mozambique, a business she started in June 2020, when she found an opportunity during Covid. She understood that some organizations had to close because of Covid, so she decided to start her business to help the organizations continue to be active on social media, supporting them with their communication, scheduling posts, producing content etc. And now she's growing step by step.

LoA chatted to founder Andrea Massamba to learn more about this growing business.

When did your start your business?

AM Support started in June 2020, and during this time it was accepted very well by the people in Mozambique. I began with one designer, then faced the necessity to grow my team and became six people by December 2020. However, during this time we faced some challenges. We lost some clients and some employees. In September 2021 we decided to open an office, now we are four people and we are doing very well, growing and looking for big clients as well as new opportunities outside of our country.

What does your company do?

We do social media strategies and manage them. We do spots, videos, photos, and design services. Basically, everything around image and communication training.

“In September 2021 we decided to open an office, now we are four people and we are doing very well, growing and looking for big clients, as well as new opportunities outside of our country.”

What inspired you to start your company?

I love sales and I love digital marketing, so when I saw that gap in the market, I decided to start doing something different in a way to build up new businesses, help them to create their identity, and establish businesses that didn’t use the proper communication or their absence in social media.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

We are particular in what we do, what we think -  it’s what we are, we care, love, and create excellence in everything we do concerning our job and our business. Every client is unique, we build them an identity.

Tell us a little about your team

Oh gosh, I am so grateful. I love each one of them; they are so special to me. They encourage me every day and are always by my side. They love me more than I can understand why, they are very busy fighting for our goals and achievements, they are always looking out for our future, they are something else.

“We do social media strategies and manage them. We do spots, videos, photos, and design services. Basically, everything around image and communication training.”

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

It's the first time I’ve started a business and I decided to take it seriously and to register it. When I was young, I sold biscotti at the university and to some jewelry stores. I also love handicrafts and produced some beautiful things for home, parties, etc. I also sold clothes imported from some countries outside Mozambique.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Oh yes, I want to grow, I want to be big, I want to be relevant, I want to be the most excellent in my area of operation. I want to work with NGO's, banks and hotels. I want to build a house to become my office the way I’ve always dreamed.

“I want to grow, I want to be big, I want to be relevant, I want to be the most excellent in my area of operation.”

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

The opportunity to be me, the opportunity to do whatever I want, when I want. The fact that I can create without asking permission from anyone. The opportunity to be free.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Women, be happy. Start where you are. Stop looking at your limitations, don't think about the money, start from where you are.

Why LoA loves it…

We love seeing women entrepreneurs find their gap in the market and then make that gap their own, with their own unique product or service offerings. In Mozambique, Andrea Massamba is doing just that in the world of social media and digital marketing. For many customers, building a digital presence and fully utilizing the power of social media to build a brand can be daunting, but that is where Andrea and her team come in. They are the experts who can help with everything from social media campaign planning to content creation. Who doesn’t need that kind of help on their digital business journeys? — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
