Startup Story

These days, digital communication has become the most powerful tool for any business to reach those all important customers and markets. But for many non-profit organisations, the process of building a digital communication strategy and tools can be overwhelming. In South Africa, entrepreneur Lethumusa Kulube, founder of Stractiv8 Impact, has the specialist solution and approach that is needed.

LoA chatted to the inspirational Lethumusa Kulube to find out more….

What does your company do?

Stractiv8 Impact is a bespoke digital communication consultancy that focuses on bringing about community and societal change. Committed to making a difference in the world, we assist corporate social programmes and non-profit organisations with strategy, research, process design and content development in order to grow the visibility of their cause.

Harnessing the power of digital solutions, we use our extensive corporate experience coupled with a deep understanding of working in the non-profit field, to develop sustainable solutions, growth and engagement. We’re all about honest communication, active listening and authentic channels that drive positive results.

“We’re all about honest communication, active listening and authentic channels that drive positive results.”

“Stractiv8 Impact believes that the bottom line lies in the change we offer.”

What inspired you to start your company?

After years in the corporate IT space, I started to ask myself if I would be able to use my skills to help other industries. This started my journey to eventually get the courage to commit myself fully to starting a business. And while it was a rocky road, I can honestly say that it was the best decision which I look back on proudly.

What makes your business, service or product special?

Stractiv8 Impact believes that the bottom line lies in the change we offer. Doing good business for us means offering services that are focused on bringing the right message across to our client's audience in a sustainable and efficient manner.

Tell us a little about your team

I work with an awesome young communications specialist who the industry should look out for! To support us, Shweshwe and I work with a team of technical specialists that provide creative and robust design and development services that bring their best in each project.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I never actually anticipated going full time into entrepreneurship. Most of my family are in the formal working sector and most of my friends were too. This led to me being very misunderstood and many of my loved ones were at times frustrated with my choice. But with resilience and keeping an open mind, I've been able to build a network of fellow entrepreneurs and also show my loved ones that it is possible to make entrepreneurship work.

“I aspire to work across the African continent and tell the stories of the people of Africa that will support the social and economic revival.”

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

The business is at a stage where we are ready to scale. My future plans involve welcoming strategic partners and a strong team of talented people who can see this growth through its journey. I aspire to work across the African continent and tell the stories of the people of Africa that will support the social and economic revival.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Two things give me great satisfaction. Firstly being able to work with different people and business, and secondly being able to see that the work we do reaches and impacts lives.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Be clear about why you are starting and share this with your family, friends and trusted colleagues as they may prove to be the biggest supporters in all seasons of your business. Remain flexible about your approach but committed to your goal; you may hit a detour along the journey but understand why and use that time to rebuild that which made you take the detour.
