Startup Story

Flowers make any event a special occasion, and in Mozambique, entrepreneur Amália Ngoca, founder of Malita Investimentos, is expanding her already successful event management company to include floral decorations.

“Our products and services are different because we serve the needs of customers looking for innovation.”

What inspired you to start your company?

First was the passion in accounting because only professional accounting techniques by ITC count, and secondly for the pleasure of doing events.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Our products and services are different because we serve the needs of customers looking for innovation. We have fair prices and quality services, and ensure compliance with deadlines agreed with the client.

Tell us a little about your team

My team is divided into two teams - in the Consultancy I have 2 technicians, fixed in the office, and we have several collaborators who work in events. During events I work with several groups on an occasional basis. Both groups are very fond of work, they are friendly, fun, serious in what they do and with great responsibility and each group has an event coordinator, where each one responds to the projects.

“We embrace a new specialist area of flower arrangements, and we hope to explore this new area of activity more.”

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

At the age of 18, I started to sell clothes from neighboring South Africa and Swaziland. Then I opened a Lady Unixesso Hair Salon, where I worked with my sister, did makeup and took care of the brides, and where my cousin Fred took care of the hair cuts - male hair. In 2009 after the wedding, I left the salon with my brother and in 2011 I started with consulting that is right for you, and Malita Investimentos was officially created. I have a Master's in Business Management from USTM and a Professional Accounting Technician, and I also a member of Ocam. And the fact that working in a company with entrepreneurs that our daily life gives you helps a lot in this entrepreneurial journey.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Firstly, having our own facilities, and expanding our services further. And we embrace a new specialist area of flower arrangements, and we hope to explore this new area of activity more.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

The satisfaction comes from being able, being open to embrace the new activities. And also being an entrepreneurial woman and wanting to do, knowing how to do, and someone who is not afraid to try new areas of work.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Don't give up. Know how to listen and have an open mind to ask and receive advice. Women do not be afraid of challenges, and just start with what little you have, start, just start will not feel like stopping because you will enjoy what you do. Do something that you like and that is good for the company.
