It’s often said that lighting makes a space or a room come alive, and for design entrepreneur Dounia Tamri-Loeper, founder of Dounia Home, lighting is her inspiration. She is creating beautiful, statement lighting pieces that not only celebrate the centuries-old techniques and designs that are uniquely Moroccan, but is elevating them to a whole new level.
LoA spoke to the talented founder of Dounia Home, Dounia Tamri-Loeper this month to find out more. Here is her story.
I grew up in a beautiful coastal town in Morocco where I was inspired by a rich array of artisan ceramicists whose skill and style had been passed down through generations. It was in this setting that I developed my own unique style as an artist and a love for marrying textures, forms and patterns.
I moved to the U.S. in 2003 in order to continue my development as an artist, eventually pursuing design. After earning my B.S. in Design from Drexel University, I held a position as a Senior Designer at Michael Graves Architecture and Design, where I had the honour of working closely with the legendary Michael Graves himself. However, it was always my dream to share my Moroccan heritage and unique artistic style with people around the world. And it was with this intention that I founded the Dounia Home product line in 2015. Our mission is to produce innovative, high quality lighting, whilst also sustain our community of artisans and preserving the Moroccan Handicraft. The Dounia Home line exudes simplicity, functionality, and history.

We launched Dounia Home in 2015 because of our deep passion and love for the Moroccan handicraft. The inspiring historical and artistic landscape of this country provided us with endless possibilities to create lighting collections that connect our customers to the essence of this amazing country and preserve its craft. We are so committed to aesthetic authenticity, that we focus on designing, developing, and making all our products in the heart of Morocco.
Our Dounia Home collections are a showcase of high quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. Each piece is meticulously hand-crafted to perfection, using traditional metalworking techniques passed down through generations. We work with a carefully selected group of master artisans. We operate ethically, on every aspect of our business. We pay our artisans fairly; we provide them with reasonable work hours and provide them with opportunities for growth. When you purchase a Dounia Home product you are purchasing a piece of history and helping sustain the Moroccan artisan community as well as ensuring the continuity of the trade.
