Those special occasions in life and in business deserve special events with which to celebrate, and in Mozambique, Katike Serviços founded by entrepreneur Elsa Chissano is bringing her clients’ event dreams to reality.
LoA spoke to founder Elsa Chissano this month to find out more.
What does your company do?
My company, Katike Services, is a specialist catering and events company in Mozambique.
What inspired you to start your company?
My children were my inspiration to become an entrepreneur and start a business.

Tell us a little about your team
My people are everything to me and we are only 8 members in our team. They started out on this entrepreneurial journey with me without knowing what the future held, and they grabbed the company with great passion and enthusiasm. Above all, they never gave up on our vision, even though there have been many highs and many challenges along the way.
Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
I've always worked alone. I started from scratch with nothing and without capital. I grew working with big companies but I suffered a lot of pressure, and I had to hold on to the company by my teeth and nails. I made many right decisions but also very wrong decisions along the way. I lost many things, also people, but I never, ever gave up. And I've learned a lot on this business building journey. I’m starting to rebuild myself and my business on a more settled footing, with a more focused approach, and harnessing my wide experience in the field. I have now restructured the company and I'm ready for 2019.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
I want to stabilize financially, create robustness throughout the work we do and across the business, I felt that this is fundamental. I always want to guarantee the quality of my services to all my clients, whether they are big or small. Providing work to families for me is fundamental.
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
Helping families. I am aware that paying salaries to 10 people is contributing to the growth of 10 families, and that gives me great satisfaction.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
Fight, and never give up. And to be aware that no one grows alone in all respects of life and business.
