For many people, organising their corporate and personal travel arrangements can be a real chore, and often a logistical nightmare. That’s where specialist travel agencies come in to help make the process easier. Nancy Munderu, founder of Travel Shore Africa, is making it her personal mission to help people better navigate their travel arrangements.

 

LoA loved finding out more about this unique travel business from founder Nancy Munderu.

What does your company do?

Travel Shore Africa is a Tours and Travel agency, specializing mostly in corporate travel and out bound travel.

What inspired you to start your company?

I always had a passion for travel and arranging travel, plus I had a passion for business, growing up in a family of entrepreneurs. Making travel arrangements as a business was my driving force.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

We can save businesses time and money through our worldwide affiliations and
partnerships by offering a wide range of services for the corporate traveler. Our corporate account managers can implement and monitor your travel policies, as well as keep your business informed on travel industry issues through regular communication and meetings. For the individual traveler, we take the stress out of planning a vacation, so you can start relaxing before your depart. Whether you travel locally or internationally, we provide information on your destination, so you know what to expect and where to find the services you need.

Tell us a little about your team

We have a knowledgeable and well-traveled team of consultants. We offer unique "after
hours" and "Sunday by appointment" plans. We are proud of our personal and professional attention to the individual and corporate travelers. Our computerized global network connection with local and international airlines gives us a competitive edge, and we are therefore able to compete effectively among other players. Our top most priority is to provide our customers with tailor made, prompt and superior services at all times.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Yes, I come from an entrepreneurial background - my mother has always had a business which she was doing aside from her being a nurse. When I graduated from college after studying international tours and travel, I got a job with Kenya Airways and then the prestigious KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Whilst there, I interacted a lot with travel agents. I had a dream of starting my own agency but I had no knowledge on how to run one or how they made money. In 2011, I decided to resign from my airline job and get a job with a travel agency to learn. It was at this point I was sure employment was not for me. I got a job, the pay was half what I earned before but my aim was to learn. I later opened my company in 2012 at the age of 26 years with two clients who were my mother's friends travelling to China for business. It has been bumpy, with a lot of frustration ranging from human resource to financing, but we have been able to work on them. We are still building relationships with our banks and we appreciate Stanbic Bank for the support so far.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

To go regional and to be the most preferred travel agency in the region.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Growth. Excellent feedback from our clients. Making a living from what I love to do most and being able to overcome challenges with dignity.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Start now. Do not give excuses or wait for the big break. start with what you have now and follow your dreams. God blesses the work of our hands - there has to be something to bless.
