May 7, 2017 Melanie Hawken
Sazia Sousa, founder of Technoplus (Mozambique)

Sazia Sousa, founder of Technoplus (Mozambique)

Mastering the art of the career pivot is something that Sazia Sousa knows well, having originally studied to be an architect and then making the move into computer engineering. This adventurous move has led to her becoming a key player in this highly competitive field with the creation of her company Technoplus.

LoA met with the inspirational Sazia this month at the Lioness Lean In Breakfast event in Maputo and learned more about this game changing entrepreneur.

What does your company do?

Technoplus is a Mozambican Company working in Solutions in Information Technologies, since 2010. The business originally started with a focus on IT maintainance but has since expanded to split into three specialist service areas:

"The principal motivation to start my business was by the need to work and lack of employment available at the time, as a result the solution was self-employment."

What inspired you to start your company?

The principal motivation to start my business was by the need to work and lack of employment available at the time, as a result the solution was self-employment. Another great motivation was that I was tired of hearing that IT’ professionals “are not serious about their work” and so I had a desire to be part of a new generation of IT professionals that provide quality services, thus creating new rules in this area.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Because my company addresses the individual needs of each client and their key challenges. We present innovative and results oriented solutions for their IT areas, always surpassing their most demanding expectations. We take a solutions oriented approach to meet the needs of all our clients. We invest in excellence and technical know how, and we display a high level of integrity and professional ethics with all those entities with whom we relate. We also have a proactive approach oriented towards achieving economic, social and environmental sustainability.

Tell us a little about your team

We are a multicultural team with 20 enthusiastic and dynamic young people, most of them with a technology background.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I originally came from an entrepreneurial background which I didn’t want to follow myself, so I studied to be an architect. However, I was disappointed by the market opportunities in this specialist field that I wanted to follow, so I took the decision to study computer engineering based on the big range of work opportunities available in this area. During college I had a chance to work in two different companies, the last of which I left to embark on this big entrepreneurial adventure I am on today.

Why LoA loves it….

Many entrepreneurs are driven to achieve success in business and in life because they have a passion and a motivation that goes beyond simply making money. In the case of Sazia Sousa, she was inspired to be part of a new, young, dynamic generation of IT professionals looking to shake up the existing status quo of the sector in her country. Her business Technoplus is building a great reputation for itself for being one of the new game changing companies in the IT sector and creating a new era for young and dynamic IT professionals in Mozambique.  --- Melanie Hawken, founder and editor-in-chief of Lionesses of Africa
