From transforming actors in television and film studios to fulfill their onscreen roles, to styling models for the fashion runways, leading professional makeup and hair artist, Daisy Mogne, has certainly perfected her craft. Today, her own Studio Daisy Mogne, is building a wonderful reputation for transforming and preparing clients for their special days, from weddings and special occasions, to those who work in front of the camera each day.

LoA chatted to the talented Daisy Mogne this month to find out more.

What does your company do?

My company, Daisy Mogne Studio, is based on two key specialist service offerings - professional Make-up and Hair Styling. We focus mainly on those two areas to provide our clients with the best service and experience possible.

"I like to create things and see transformations in people, and sharing my creative gift with everyone is my greatest pleasure."

What inspired you to start your company?

I like to create things and see transformations in people, and sharing my creative gift with everyone is my greatest pleasure. Starting Studio Daisy Mogne was a way of doing what I am passionate about, and bringing other girls on board into the business to demonstrate their creative side and skills as well.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

People choose Studio Daisy Mogne because they feel they already have a history and connection. Some of our clients have been with us for more than 5 years. The relationship we build with our customers is based on trust and good communication, in fact, most of them became our friends. We keep in mind that it is our reputation on the line, therefore we do everything in our power to ensure that our clients are always satisfied. Clients tend to be price-conscious, we try to keep the price range within the market. Our focal point is to provide quality and time saving for the client.

Tell us a little about your team

My team is made up of a group of girls that were united by the same interest and focus, and with that, we became a family.  It's a small, trustworthy and hardworking team, comprising 5 women, most of whom are in their early 20s, working part-time and studying too. We dedicate our time to seeing smiles of satisfaction on our clients' faces after a well-finished job. We are all equals inside the Studio and everyone benefits from everything good that happens to the company, either payment wise or with ouraccomplishments.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I am Daisy Doris Ferreira Mogne, a 29-year-old makeup artist and hairstylist with 9 years of experience, a bachelor's degree in '' Specialist Make-up artist'' from the West Thames College & University in London, UK. Since childhood I have always had the spirit of entrepreneurship. I spent my childhood in Portugal, where from the age of 7, I started selling the services of ''foot massage'' to my family in order to obtain my coins to buy sweets and ice cream without asking anyone. Since then I have always been arranging ways to be minimally independent of my parents, doing a little of everything at school, from selling personalized cards, earrings, decorative shoe boxes, amongst other 'small businesses'. Already in my teenage years when I moved to London with my family, I started exploring my hairdressing side, and in high school I would braid my colleagues’ hair at half the price, to have my “allowance."

I come from a middle-class family that has been changing countries in search of better life opportunities. My parents always left me free will to pursue small jobs, as long as it did not influence or interfere with my studies. Neither of them are entrepreneurs but they showed me that to achieve what I want I have to go and get it. When I entered college to earn my own money parallel to classes, I decided to create business cards and distributed them in my area for various services such as: Cleaning homes, washing of windows, ironing clothes, and babysitting of children. I performed these jobs during college and University years. After graduation in 2008, I decided to return to Mozambique, with the aim of bringing a new concept to the country in terms of specialist make-up services. I worked as a freelancer for 7 years where I did everything, including make-up for movies, soap operas, advertisements, fashion shows, trainings, individual, among others. In 2013 I had the opportunity to teach the first professional makeup artist course, certified by the Ministry of Education, graduating 7 new professionals in the area. To finish, in November of 2015, I decided to take a bigger step and set up my own professional studio of make-up and hairstyling outside my house (where I used to receive my clients as a freelancer). Thus was created Studio Daisy Mogne, which now not only features me, but four more members in the team.

"My ultimate goal is to one day have a technical beauty school in Mozambique, where I can share all my knowledge and inspire other people."

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

My ultimate goal is to one day have a technical beauty school in Mozambique where I can share all my knowledge and inspire other people. My aim is to give everyone the opportunity to gain exposure to different careers and an open mind to the world of beauty.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Being able to wake up every day and do what I love gives me the satisfaction I need to carry on and always improve to achieve bigger things. Also to see how my work can impact on the lives of people on their special days.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Always stay focused and motivated. You will find many barriers along the way, but as long as you push through, you will always be one step closer to your goals and dreams. I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it. Never lose hope and faith in yourself and your passion.

Why LoA loves it….

There are some women in the world who are just born with an entrepreneurial streak and from an early age look to make their way by looking for business opportunities and finding a niche for themselves. Daisy Mogne is one such woman. She has found her entrepreneurial calling in the world as a talented, highly creative and professional makeup artist and hairstylist. Perfecting her skills as a freelancer for 7 years in the high profile world of television, film and fashion runway industries, today she not only is a highly sought after makeup and hairstylist in her own right, she was also the first person in the country to teach the first professional makeup artist course, certified by the Ministry of Education. Daisy Mogne is an inspirational name to watch out for in Mozambique.  --- Melanie Hawken, founder and editor-in-chief of Lionesses of Africa
