Basadi Ohimile - The startup story of an entrepreneur from Botswana with a passion for communication and creativity

May 16, 2016 Melanie Hawken
Basadi Ohimile, founder of The Concept King (Botswana)

Basadi Ohimile, founder of The Concept King (Botswana)

Understanding the power of an integrated communication approach to help businesses to grow and connect with their audiences is something that entrepreneur Basadi Ohimile knows only too well. Her business, The Concept King, is leveraging her own experience and that of her team, to provide an end-to-end communications solution to her clients, both at home and across the continent.

LoA met with Basadi Ohimile for coffee and conversation this month to find out more about this young woman entrepreneur on a mission to build a strong communications brand of her own on the continent.

What does your company do?

The Concept King is a creative company specializing in communication and advertising services in its broad spectrum, including Public Relations strategy, Marketing, Brand Management, Promotions, Corporate Gifts, Print Booking, Graphic Design and Creative advertising (Press,Television, & Radio). The Concept King offers a creative resource pool to clients and customers in a different way, bringing together a powerful network of communication and creative specialists under one strategic framework, to develop fully integrated communication solutions for our clients.

"The most successful businesses of the past years have all understood one singularly important business principle - communication and advertising is everything and vice versa."

What inspired you to start your company?

What inspired me was my own self reliance which was instilled in me at a very young age, together with my desire to share my talent for communications with the world while I help them to grow their brands.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

At The Concept King, we pride ourselves on our ability to create personal tailored integrated communications solutions to our clientele. We are highly creative and ideas focused in our approach, and our company motto is "We Stamp YOUR idea with OUR creativity."

"Our philosophy serves to remind us that at the end of the day, what is important is the value that communication adds to our client’s business."

Tell us a little about your team

Our team comprises a network of communication and creative specialists from Graphic Design Technicians, Commerce and Marketing Gurus, to a Public Relations Maven all in one strategic framework, focused on developing fully integrated communication solutionsfor our clients.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Unemployment impacted my country Botswana like many other countries around the world. However, we have always been taught self reliance and that's how The Concept King was founded. I liaised for the company while I studied in South Africa and after graduation I was unfortunate enough to fall into the same trap of joblessness. However, I took the entrepreneurial approach and we opened our branch here in South Africa, trading as TckMedia. I grew up watching entrepreneurship at its best, it’s just that back then I didn't even know the terminology existed. It is ironic that my early exposure to the world of entrepreneurship would eventually pave way for an international company today. That's how solid my entrepreneurial background is, I learned from the best.

"We are highly creative and ideas-focused in our approach, and our company motto is "We Stamp YOUR idea with OUR creativity."

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Our future plan is to open offices around the world with possible joint ventures to build well rooted companies in each countries.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

The ability to explore and implement my creativity without any due restrictions.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

As much as the lion is the King of the jungle, a lioness raises and builds the cohesiveness of the family. Rise the innate lioness in you and start building - the hustles will come - allow them to be the curve-balls that will help you to build your entrepreneurial journey. Extend your hands and hold on to other like minded people as you and go forward to implement your dreams.

Why LoA loves it….

To meet Basadi Ohimile is to see someone passionate about harnessing the power of communication for the benefit of others who want to build their brands and get their messages connecting with key audiences. Basadi loves the process of working with clients to develop integrated communications solutions that have the desired results. She gets great satisfaction when the campaigns she develops bear fruit for the brands she is busy positioning in the marketplace, and knows how to think out-of-the-box when those campaigns need an innovative approach. --- Melanie Hawken, founder and CEO of Lionesses of Africa
