Flying Doctors Nigeria, founded by Dr. Ola Orekunrin, have been recognised by this year's Consumersng Awards for being one of the top 20 brands in Nigeria adopting high tech innovations in delivering services to people. Flying Doctors Nigeria, a medical emergency service that specializes in air ambulances, and other remote site medical solutions services, won the health start-ups category.
According to Consumersng spokesperson, Funsho Williams, the recognition given to the winning brands was because they had proved themselves to be proactively responsive to the yearnings of people in an information age. "I commend them all, for finding courage to be innovative in a society like ours which places less priority on consumer rights (people), they are so important to us that we have decided to make them the face of our souvenirs this year in order to position them as role model for other organisations to emulate. She said.

In a bid to turnaround the diminishing ethical business standards in Nigeria, Consumersng, an online consumer rights advocacy platform established to ensure a more consumer-centric culture in Nigeria recognises and celebrates brands who are delivering premium services to Nigerians.
In a press statement released by the organizers of the award, the rights advocacy platform explained that part of the keys to unlocking the desired customer appreciation policy in the country is to showcase organisations doing things RIGHTLY and position them as models for others to emulate in a country where consumer appreciation is continually on the decline. “This year, we set our theme on rewarding companies deploying the best and latest technological solutions to providing world class services to their customers. In selecting the winning brands, consumers themselves will be voting their choice brands and this is what makes the award different from others. We have kick started a voting process online which will be complimented by other criteria such as comments and recommendations from panel of judges which comprises majorly of stakeholders, analysts and watchers from the respective sectors will also be considered.
About Ola Orekunrin
Dr. Ola Orekunrin is a medical doctor, helicopter pilot and the healthcare entrepreneur founder of Flying Doctors Nigeria, West Africa’s first Air Ambulance Service. She's dedicated to bringing trauma care to the most remote parts of Western Africa and her company, an air ambulance service based in Lagos, is doing just that. She was motivated to start the company after her younger sister tragically died whilst traveling in Nigeria as a consequence of their being no medical air service available to transport her to hospital. Ola graduated as a medical doctor from the University Of York in the UK and is a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.
Ola resides in Lagos, Nigeria where she is considered a national expert of disaster medicine and pre-hospital care. Her company has been featured on various local TV and radio stations as well as the BBC and CNN.
