What does your company do?

Founded in 2014, Royal Maids is a residential and commercial cleaning company in Kenya offering weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and one-time cleanings. Royal Maids gives busy individuals and families clean, comfortable homes to return to and enjoy each day.

What inspired you to start your company?

Today, more and more people face the challenge of needing to clean and remove the clutter in their homes and offices. Dirt and clutter are the things in our lives that create a stagnant and distracting environment, therefore Royal Maids comes in to ease the chaos of everyday life.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

Royal Maids will help get your home and/or office clean and organised so that you can live the best version of your life possible, and feeling eager to come back to your fresh home or office.

Tell us a little about your team

I began at the Royal Maids working alongside my mother and I have continued to build and grow the business over the past 2 years. As founder and CEO, and a natural people-person, my role is to drive the execution of the vision and strategic plan for the business. I oversee the marketing, sales activities and events, and am responsible for maintaining contact with clients. I consider communication and corporate transparency essential to system success. I have a bachelor’s degree in Project Planning and Management from The University of Nairobi. My colleague, Catherine Mueni, oversees marketing, sales and customerexperience in the business. This role holistically leads both customer acquisition and retention strategies for Royal Maids.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I run another company, Rent Out Ltd (https://www.rentsout.com), with our main focus on connecting hosts and guests. This platform allows people to list their extra spaces and rooms for money offering guests an alternative to hotels.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

I want Royal Maids to lead the cleaning industry through outstanding customer service, training and meticulous quality control.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Providing a clean and healthy environment in our working places and homes, provide job opportunities, change peoples lives.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Entrepreneurship requires self-trust and it is so important that you have a team behind you, because things are going to get rough at some point, and you need people who think differently than you in order to prosper and problem-solve.
