Kabwe Mulolo, a South African recruitment entrepreneur helping the construction and engineering industry to find the right people

Kabwe Mulolo, founder of Construct Executive Search (CES) (South Africa)

Kabwe Mulolo, founder of Construct Executive Search (CES) (South Africa)

A company is only ever as good as its people, and that’s why it is so important to hire the right people with the right skills in order to grow and thrive. In South Africa, one company, Construct Executive Search founded by Kabwe Mulolo, is building a great reputation for specialized recruitment, helping businesses in the construction, technical and engineering sectors find the professional staff they need.

LoA chatted to founder Kabwe Mulolo to find out more this month.

What does your company do?

My practice, Construct Executive Search (CES), is a disciplined recruitment agency that specializes in the selection of qualified executive professionals and has a pro-active approach to deploying its professional skills with formidable expertise in the Construction, Trade & Technical (FMCG), as well as Engineering sectors.

“Our aim is to become the most sought after recruitment agency within our niche and also to service more clients in Africa as well as in the international marketplace.”

What inspired you to start your company?

To challenge the status quo, women can also do it and be a role model in a tough male dominated industry. I specifically chose a technical field because I thrive in challenging myself and avoiding complacency. Also to bring about change, to contribute to the greater good of the country, and addressing the unemployment rate which has skyrocketed to 27.1% in the year 2019. This is particularly worrying given that South Africa is a developing country and has been doing well compared to any other African countries. I have always wanted to be a thought leader in my industry and my aim is to continue to learn and in-turn pass on my knowledge and my expertise to everyone around me.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

As a niche recruitment agency within a specific market segment, we do what we do because we would like to challenge the status quo by offering a specialized service that provides solutions to a specific market need. We offer affordable placement fees that bring about ease of mind to our esteemed client base. We recruit high calibre candidates in Engineering, Trade & Technical (FMCG), as well as Construction sectors within South Africa, the African continent and internationally. We are currently working with clients in Kuwait. We take the initiative to research our clients’ needs and we try by all means to deliver, at all costs. Our business thrives on offering customized solutions by creating an entire suite of human resource management services, i.e. recruitment and selection, interview screening, reference checks, job evaluation, advertising, etc.

Tell us a little about your team

CES has a team of experts with many years’ experience in the comprehensive support of engineering, construction and Trade & Technical companies in the public, as well as the private sector, in the area of selection and recruitment of qualified executive personnel. Our team offers high quality services to provide the best outcomes in the recruitment and employment of personnel from a niche business sector. Our consultants are registered with APSO (Association for Personnel Service Organizations) and we comply with the highest standard required in the recruitment industry. With engineering, construction and Trade & Technical placements being our forté, we pride ourselves in the selection of well qualified, well equipped trained staff to administer the recruitment process to a client’s satisfaction. We source the best possible candidates in the marketplace suitable to all your recruitment demands. We pride ourselves in working closely with both our clients and candidates and recognize an inherent dual-responsibility to both. In this regards, we believe that continued interaction with clients and candidates alike leads to success.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Construct Executive Search commonly know as CES started in 2014. As an emerging entrepreneur at the time it seemed impossible to get things in order as I was a Receptionist, Administrator, Accountant, Tea lady, Cleaning lady, Office Manager, Director, Maintenance manager you name it. But as Nelson Mandela said, "IT always seems impossible until it’s DONE". Within two months I had generated enough revenue to cover two months expenses, within 12 months the company had generated over a million in revenue. It has been a tremendous journey!

“I have always wanted to be a thought leader in my industry and my aim is to continue to learn and in-turn pass on my knowledge and my expertise to everyone around me.”

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

To become the most sought after recruitment agency within our niche and also to service more clients in Africa as well as in the international marketplace. Our aim for 2019 is to tap into more African countries and expand our scope within our niche.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

The most satisfaction I get is seeing my employees happy to work with me; being able to assist my clients in dire times and accomplishing the tasks at hand; and most importantly being able to assist candidates who are unemployed to find their dream job and meeting their needs. Our goal as a company is to alleviate the unemployment rate in South Africa and to help the country to achieve this goal.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

My advice to women is that they should take the leap and go for it. It is never an easy road to take but in the long run it is worthwhile to challenge yourself and discover your true potential as a woman.

Why LoA loves it….

Breaking into a tough industry sector is always daunting for women entrepreneurs, and the construction and engineering sectors are notoriously tough on the African continent. Kabwe Mulolo is proof positive that with the right attitude, experience, and expertise, it is not only possible to build and grow a company that can make that breakthrough, but also build a great business and reputation for delivery at the same time. This is definitely one company to watch in this busy business sector this year. --- Melanie Hawken, founder and ceo of Lionesses of Africa
