Nonhlanhla Khumalo, a South African entrepreneur bringing financial management and accounting solutions to its clients

November 12, 2017 Melanie Hawken
Nonhlanhla Khumalo, founder of LeHay Consulting (South Africa)

Nonhlanhla Khumalo, founder of LeHay Consulting (South Africa)

Businesses need access to specialist financial services advice and support, but often for start up companies, it can be a daunting process. Now help is at hand from experienced accountant and entrepreneur, Nonhlanhla Khumalo, founder of LeHay Consulting.

LoA learned more about this specialist financial solutions company on the move.

What does your company do?

The company, Lehay Consulting, is a financial solutions company specializing in Accounting Services, Financial Management, Tax Services and Business Consulting Services. Formed in February 2005 as Nonhlanhla and Sons Financial Services, this business was a passive business until 2013. The Johannesburg-based company went through a process of redefining and repositioning itself in order to provide optimal benefits to its customers, and execution of the vision and mission it carries. This marked a new era of growth and the company name was changed to Le Hay Consulting in January 2014, a more inclusive and futuristic name, forecasting the unprecedented growth of the company and its future prospects.

"We satisfy, inspire and nurture our clients, believing and supporting their vision."

What inspired you to start your company?

The entrepreneurship desire was an inspiration. The need to provide specialist accounting and finance service skills to the various business communities, including the SMEs and SMMEs who have limited exposure and finances compared to large Corporates. Also, the desire to make lots of money!

Why should anyone use your service or product?

We satisfy, inspire and nurture our clients, believing and supporting their vision. We have affordable and competitive prices, with various tailor-made packages and offerings. We have a highly skilled, dynamic and experienced team. The company strives to be a leader in its own right in areas of its specialization.

Tell us a little about your team

Le Hay Consulting has certain contractors we work with, as and when there are projects warranting the staff. Currently, there are no permanent staff onboard. I am the company’s Managing Director and have extensively experience in Finance and Accounting with an MBA: Finance, a B Com (Hons) and I am a Professional Accountant (SA). I bring over 22 years experience that started in Standard Bank part time, and proceeded to Deloitte & Touche, serving Articles, working for various corporates including Mondi Paper, part of Anglo American Group then, worked for Parastatals also, like KZN Tourism Authority heading the Finance Division and SA Post Office heading the Group Finance Function. In all the roles occupied, the entities have received unmodified audit opinions throughout my career. I also serve in certain Audit and Risk Committees, including chairing some of them.

"I would like to create the similar business model to that of the ‘Big 4’ for professional accountancy firms, replicating it across the country and beyond."

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

Yes, my Mom was a Qualified Nurse full time and a part time entrepreneur. My brother who is an entrepreneur, runs several companies, operating in the construction and general services sectors.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

I would like to see the company enhance its product offerings and client reach. I would also like to create the similar business model to that of the ‘Big 4’ for professional accountancy firms, replicating it across the country and beyond.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Money coming into the Bank Account, combined with having satisfied clients and seeing the business growing.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Plan for getting into business, not running the business as an accident...it might just not make it, not because of a bad concept but because of poor planning for success.

Surround yourself with people that challenge you, encourage you and hold you accountable.

Trust God to direct your steps.
