We have all heard of the term ‘sick building syndrome’, and many of us at some point may have experienced such buildings at first hand, but one South African entrepreneur is on a mission to change all that. Belinda Gantz, founder of LivingChange, is helping people to create positive spaces that are healthy and happy to live and work in.
LoA found out more about this unique entrepreneur and her passion for promoting conscious living through healing spaces.
What does your company do?
LivingChange (PTY) Ltd is a company that helps people create harmonious spaces in a modern world through a process called Home Alignment. This process is based on the principle that we are interconnected with our environment, meaning we are strongly affected by what is happening in our space around us. We change the reality within which we live and work by addressing and treating the root causes that keep us from experiencing a sense of connectedness, flow and peace, at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. LivingChange promotes conscious living in the world today through healing spaces.
"LivingChange is a company that helps people create harmonious spaces in a modern world through a process called Home Alignment."
What inspired you to start your company?
Sick buildings. Being very sensitive to how a home, a business building or a land space feels like - if I experience discomfort in my body based on the energy of the environment, I always struggle to relax and focus. My heart wants to be where I feel held and supported by a space. A sick place makes me feel stuck.
I don't believe anyone should ever work or live in places that create a dissatisfying feeling for them. This will without a doubt have an effect on a family's happiness and on the productivity levels of a company because it drains all sense of inspiration. I believe sick spaces also have an effect on a land space in terms of environmental sustainability.
The world is changing rapidly. I started this company with the hope that we are moving towards a future where we consider the impact of our environment in every aspect of life. It is my dream that we will constantly strive to bring ourselves, our homes, our businesses and land spaces into alignment through combining the home alignment process with various existing industries as the norm in our way of living and in our understanding in business.
LivingChange was created to build a bridge between the holistic and the business world. The aim was to keep the language of energy work as neutral as possible for anyone from any walk of life to resonate with the home alignment process in a way that they make sense of the world in order to be open and receive the desired outcome of living and working in a harmonised space.
Why should anyone use your service or product?
Home alignment offers a holistic and practical approach to every area of transformation that is required in your life and in your work. The same process can be used for various areas of choice in your life, such as when you get married, open an office or business space, plan for a baby, sell or buy a home, renovate, just to name a few examples.
I encourage self-empowerment and trust this process because it honours the intention that comes through from your higher intelligence, also referred to as your higher self. It is not a system that is guided by ego or by what the facilitator wants, but rather by what is ultimately in alignment with the highest good for all involved with or affected by the process. You, as the client, are constantly involved with the process. I recommend this service to everyone who accepts their own role and responsibility in healing and balancing the energy of their environment by acknowledging the interconnectedness of all things in life.

Tell us a little about your team
The company was registered in August 2014 and at the moment it is still only myself in charge of every aspect that makes up a business. However, I am connected to business network groups where I experience being part of a team because it offers me great support as a startup in a learning environment. I hope to have a team of my own in the years to come and will do regular home/ business alignment balances with them as a group on a monthly basis to keep us connected and aligned with the intention of the company and as a unit.
Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
I come from a Fine Arts background and studied various energy healing modalities while being an employee at a big company and working after hours as a waitress. When I registered my company just after turning 33, I was working full time as a waitress, but am now only part time at the restaurant that provides support while I continue to build a sustainable business. The day I started learning about business was the day I started with my company's registration process and coming up with ideas for the logo. Joining various business network events was where I started to learn and recognise all my mistakes. And there were many! An amazing business coach came into my life about a year ago and it feels like his program rewired my brain because it changed my entire outlook on how to present why, how and what I do. My entrepreneurial journey has challenged and taught me to get rid of my ego by being willing to constantly reinvent myself and the company where it requires change, in order to stay in alignment with the mission and the vision of why I started LivingChange in the first place. Within less than two years, having a startup business has transformed me completely and I am extremely grateful for all the mentors that have showed up along the way.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
To be on people's minds when they are doing the following:
- Experience discomfort in their home or work environment that limits the flow of energy.
- When a couple is planning their wedding. Home alignment should become part of the wedding planning journey to align the energy of a home for a sacred union. This should be as important as booking a wedding venue and a photographer.
- When someone is selling a home to release attachments that are possibly affecting the sale OR when a new home is bought and a family's own intentions should be brought into alignment with the space.
- When there are any major renovations or interior design work being done. The value or experience of design for a home or a business space will be higher when the space receives a home alignment as part of the transformation.
- When land spaces need to be prepared for environmental sustainable projects or charities and welfares.
In a few years from now I want to see home alignment as a service that is well known, understood and considered part of the norm in our society. I also want to expand the company and have a team of architects and interior designers on board who are focused on green living through eco friendly designs.
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
Being able to choose and create again. Your company is the creative manifestation of your ideal world or your dream world. No one can tell you what you are supposed to dream or how you should interpret it to others. I enjoy the freedom, although it is challenging, of working on a dream that is based on my understanding of life, that will have a massive impact on people and other industries.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
Through experience, here is what I consider to be the BIG FIVE in a startup:
- Distance yourself from anyone who doesn't believe in what you are trying to do. Never justify your vision out of fear of rejection.
- Listen to criticism with an open mind, but don't be afraid to assert yourself either. There is a difference between assertiveness and resistance.
- Find a business coach who believes in your work and commit to what you learn 100%.
- Don't underestimate the value of investing in a professional copywriter, web-designer and photographer, even if your budget is low. Find a way, make it happen!
- Find a cause for your business to contribute to. Choose a social responsibility you believe in and promote that!
