So, how do you measure effectiveness if what you are measuring is not performed consistently? We all know about the importance of goals because most of us set them at the beginning of each year, and yet at the end of the year we are exactly where we started.
Have you noticed how full gyms are in January and then suddenly when winter approaches the numbers decline? This applies to goals we make in other areas of our lives whether business or personal. Somehow, as time goes on, our goals become less specific and more casual in nature. We begin to react to circumstances not because we do not know what to do, but because we do not follow through.
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out” – Robert Collier.
In business, once you have identified your priorities for the year, focus your energy and that of your team to ensure the achievement of your goals through sustained effort.
Consistency produces results over time. Until you have done something for a period of time in a consistent manner, you can’t really say it works or doesn’t work.
Imagine what you could achieve over time if you did minimum of five things a day, for five days a week, consistently throughout the year.
What if you:
- Approached one new prospective client a day
- Spent 15 minutes a day reading biographies of successful entrepreneurs or journals about your industry
- Brisk walked for 30min a day
- Refrained from eating processed and high sugar content foods a day for 5 days
- If you saved a minimum of R5.00 per day
It is all about doing specific things every day that move you towards your goals; one action at a time, over time, leads to results.
